About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Materials Controller to support the smooth delivery of a service and maintenance operation. You will be a key link between operations, engineering, procurement, the suppliers, and your customer; ensuring the right materials are in the right place, at the right time.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone with strong materials, logistics, or stock control experience in an engineering or rail environment who thrives in a fast-paced, safety-critical setting.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate material requirements for rolling stock projects and maintenance schedules

Maintain accurate stock levels using inventory management systems (e.g. SAGE)
*
Liaise with suppliers, stores, and internal stakeholders to manage deliveries and part availability
*
Forecast and order long lead-time or critical path components
*
Support the kitting of parts for maintenance and modification activities
*
Track usage and consumption against job requirements
*
Ensure materials are stored, handled, and issued in line with safety and compliance standards
*
Assist with audits, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
*
Manage the repair loop for defective material
*
Coordinate the support of third-party service providers
What We’re Looking For
*
Experience in a materials controller / inventory coordinator / logistics role
Background in rail, engineering, or manufacturing environments (rolling stock experience preferred)
*
Strong knowledge of stock control systems and processes
*
IT literate – competent in Excel and ERP/WMS platforms (e.g. SAGE)
*
Good communication and coordination skills
*
Strong attention to detail and proactive problem-solving mindset
*
Understanding of safety, quality, and compliance in depot or engineering environments
