Full job description
Trainee Refrigeration Engineer
£30k-£34k plus package
Exeter Based
My client is a specialist engineering company based near Exeter, working across commercial, industrial, and agricultural refrigeration.
They are heavily involved in the dairy and agricultural sector, installing, servicing, and maintaining advanced cooling and automation systems across the South West.
Their work is practical, technical, and varied — no two days are the same.
The Opportunity
They are looking for a hands-on, technically minded trainee engineer who wants to build a long-term career in the refrigeration industry.
You’ll work alongside experienced engineers on real installations and service work from day one, supported by structured in-house training and external technical courses. This is a role for someone who wants to properly learn the trade and progress to a fully qualified field engineer.
Is This Role for You?
This position does require previous hands-on engineering experience.
That might be mechanical, electrical, fabrication, HVAC, vehicle mechanics, or any role involving tools, machinery, or technical equipment.
If you’ve never worked in a practical engineering environment, this role won’t be suitable — but if you enjoy problem-solving, working with your hands, and learning how complex systems work, you’ll fit in well.
What You’ll Be Doing
* Assisting with installation, service, and maintenance of refrigeration and cooling systems
* Learning electrical, mechanical, and fault-finding skills under supervision
* Working safely and efficiently on farms and industrial sites
* Supporting senior engineers and gradually taking on more responsibility as your skills develop
What they are Looking For
* Proven hands-on engineering experience (essential)
* Mechanical or electrical background or qualification
* Comfortable working in agricultural environments (farms, dairies, etc.)
* Practical mindset with strong problem-solving skills
* Full UK driving licence (or working towards) preferred
* Reliable, punctual, and motivated to progress
Training & Progression
You’ll receive full in-house training, alongside structured external training at an accredited refrigeration training centre.
There is a clear, long-term progression route to becoming a fully qualified field engineer.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: £34,000.00-£38,000.00 per year
Application question(s):
* Are you willing to work overtime or occasionally stay later than 5 p.m. when required (for breakdowns or travel)?
