Children's Residential Care Officer Location: Doncaster Client: City of Doncaster Council. Contract Type: Full Time (37 hours/week) & Part Time (18.5 hours/week) roles available Salary: £28,132 per annum Hours: Includes rota with 2 weekends off out of 4; Sleep-in shifts paid at £40.77; 8.5% inclusive allowance for unsocial hours; overtime over 37 hours paid at time and a quarter About the Role: This is a rewarding opportunity to work directly with children and young people in a residential setting. You’ll work under the supervision of the Registered Manager, Deputy Manager, and Senior Residential Care Officers to provide a warm, caring, and enabling environment that meets the emotional, social, and physical needs of looked-after children and young people. Key Responsibilities Provide personal and active care to meet children's emotional, social, and physical needs Promote an enabling atmosphere for children to thrive Participate in admissions, care planning, reviews, and case conferences Maintain detailed records in line with Children’s Homes Regulations Support children through illness or behavioural challenges Assist with domestic duties including cooking and household tasks Build positive relationships with families, professionals, and the community Share responsibility for medication security and fire/health safety compliance Participate in sleep-in rota and maintain confidentiality and professional standards Comply with all relevant policies including Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, and Information Security Experience & Knowledge Essential: Recent experience (paid or voluntary) working with children and young people Written and verbal fluency Awareness of racial and cultural dynamics Appreciation of group dynamics Desirable: Experience in children’s residential homes Creative, sporting, or musical skills Skills & Competencies Confidence, self-awareness, and maturity Sense of humour Ability to work flexibly and respond to crises Physical ability to meet mobility and travel requirements Qualifications Essential: Willingness to undertake training and qualifications Minimum of 3 GCSEs or equivalent Working towards or completed QCF Level 3 in Residential Childcare Additional Requirements: Must complete Level 3 TQUK Diploma in Residential Childcare within two years (unless already qualified) If lacking Level 2 in Maths and English, must work towards achieving these Participation in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training Opportunity to progress to Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management Other Requirements Enhanced DBS required Must declare all spent and unspent criminal convictions Must work within the home’s ethos and Statement of Purpose Opportunities available across various residential services including EBD homes, short breaks, and disability care homes Future opportunities in emergency/end-of-care provision opening in 2025 If you are interested in the role and would like to contact me for further information on the role you can contact myself on the details below.
