Offer description

Junior Mechanical Design Engineer Location: Glasgow (West End) | Full-time (on-site) Company: Kingdom Technologies Ltd About Kingdom Kingdom Technologies is a robotics start-up based in Glasgow. We’re building autonomous lawn mowers designed for large areas like golf courses, sports fields, and public parks. Our robots use a unique path planning and positioning system that lets them cut in an efficient, human-like pattern, enabling them to cover much larger areas than traditional robotic mowers. We’ve raised around £5 million in funding, won several major start-up competitions in Scotland, and we’re growing quickly. We currently have distributors in 3 countries and our end customers are businesses or public sector clients who manage large green spaces. We’re a small but ambitious team. We move fast, and we value clear thinking, honest feedback, and a practical approach to solving problems. If something doesn’t work, we change it. If someone has a better idea, we listen. The Role We’re looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with 1–3 years of industry experience to join our R&D team. You’ll help design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for our robotic lawn mowers, with a particular focus on sheet metal parts and structures. This is a hands-on role where you’ll work alongside experienced engineers, contributing to the full product lifecycle from concept through to testing and manufacturing. You’ll be involved in CAD modelling, prototyping, testing, and preparing manufacturing documentation. It’s an excellent opportunity to further develop your technical skills and see your work go into real products used by customers. What You’ll Be Doing ● Create 3D CAD models and detailed drawings for mechanical parts, assemblies, and sheet metal components. ● Work with the wider R&D team to develop designs that meet functional, aesthetic, and manufacturing requirements. ● Assist with assembly and testing of prototypes and production units. ● Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas for improving product performance and manufacturability. ● Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including BOMs and drawings. ● Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure designs are feasible and cost-effective. ● Support senior engineers in conducting tests (lab and field), collecting data, and reporting results. ● Learn and apply principles like GD&T, Design for Manufacture and Assembly, and material selection for low-to-medium volume production. What We’re Looking For Must-Haves ● A degree (BEng or MEng) in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. ● 1–3 years of relevant experience in mechanical design engineering in industry. ● Practical experience designing sheet metal components and assemblies. ● Experience using 3D CAD software (ideally SolidWorks). ● Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. ● Comfortable assembling and disassembling mechanical parts and systems. ● Eager to learn and contribute to a collaborative team environment. ● Good written and verbal communication skills. Nice-to-Haves ● Experience using Monday.com (or similar task management tools) ● Experience using PDM, PLM and/or ERP systems. ● Familiarity with GD&T and DFM/DFA principles. ● Exposure to mechanical testing and data analysis. ● Experience creating engineering reports or technical documentation. ● An interest in robotics, automation, or working in a fast-paced start-up environment. ● Understanding of other manufacturing methods beyond sheet metal Why This Role? This is a chance to join one of the most exciting robotics companies in Scotland and see your work make a real-world impact. If you’re someone who enjoys solving engineering challenges, working with your hands, and being part of a supportive team, we’d love to hear from you. The Package We offer a competitive salary (£29,000–£36,000 depending on experience) along with share options so you’ll have a real stake in the company’s success. This is a full-time role based on a 40-hour week, and we work out of our office in Glasgow’s West End. While the role is primarily on-site to ensure close collaboration, we offer flexibility around start and end times, and some days working from home may be possible once you’ve settled into the role. What matters most is the impact you have, not the rigidity of a fixed schedule. How We Work (Our Values) These aren’t just words on a wall — we try to actually live by them day to day. They shape how we work together, make decisions, and build the company. ● Selflessness - We focus on what’s best for the company, not just individual roles. That often means helping teammates or jumping into unfamiliar areas when needed. ● Directness - We value clear, honest feedback — about the work, not the person. If something can be better, we say it. ● Proactive mindset - If something’s not working, we look for solutions instead of pointing fingers. Taking initiative is a big part of how we move forward. ● Autonomy - Everyone’s trusted to manage their own work and make decisions. We don’t micromanage, but we do support each other when needed. ● Results-first - We care more about getting things done than how they get done. Hitting goals and meeting deadlines is key, especially in a start-up environment. ● Use resources wisely - We’re mindful of time, money, and effort. That means focusing on what matters now and saving the “nice-to-haves” for later. ● Communicate clearly - We try to keep everyone in the loop, especially when it comes to progress and timelines. When in doubt, we’d rather over-communicate than under-communicate.
