This is an exciting developmental opportunity for specialist/speciality doctors with a substantive contract in the Trust to act up as a consultant for 6 months. The applicant requires to have an s12/Approved Clinician status under the Mental Health Act. This post has a combination of an acting up consultant roles in the community, step-down rehabilitation and acute pathways, so that the successful candidate will be able to gain a range of senior medical/clinical, medico-legal and leadership experiences. There will be a named consultant psychiatrist to provide regular clinical supervision.

Office space is situated in Elmfield House and Lambeth Hospital.
Main duties of the job
1. To take senior medical tasks for patients in ART, The Turrets and Rosa Parks ward with assessment and management of patients or helping to devise appropriate treatment plans and medical regimes, and acting as s12/AC approved doctor, providing prompt medical response, and advising and work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team
2. To offer specialist advice to the Lambeth Social Care and Complex Care panels
3. To act as a source of support, advice and information to current or prospective patients and their carers, referrers, team members and other professionals
4. To actively participate in Quality Improvement and Clinical Governance through their clinical team(s) and broader service
5. To carry out medical tasks under Section 12/AC of the Mental Health Act
6. To take part in interdisciplinary educational activities within the team, inpatient services, Directorate and Lambeth Living Well Network Alliance
7. To develop strong working relationships with other teams at SLaM and external stakeholders, notably GPs, local authority social services, housing providers and local voluntary organisations including our LWNA partners, to ensure good coordination of care
8. To have a weekly clinical supervision by a named clinical supervisor/consultant psychiatrist
9. No duty to be involved on the Lambeth on call rota; the post holder would be able to join the middle grade on call rota on an ad hoc basis or regularly, subject to further discussion and agreement.

The successful candidate will work in Lambeth SLaM, which is part of the the Living Well Network Alliance (LWNA), a collaboration with the local place-base of the ICB, local authorities and two voluntary sector partners (Certitude and Thames Reach). The LWNA is the first Alliance in the country to provide whole system mental health care for working age adults with innovation, co-production and populations needs at the centre of service development and delivery.
The post holder will take advantage of all the opportunities of innovative service development, quality improvement and management / leadership development in the LWNA as well as within the Trust. There are ample opportunities for educational and academic roles and collaborations as SLaM is part of King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre and also the only mental health trust in the UK to have our own biomedical research centre, hosted jointly with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at KCL.

Knowledge and Skills
Essential criteria
10. Wide-ranging knowledge and clinical expertise in bio-psycho-social assessment, treatment and management of patients with common and complex mental health conditions in inpatient and community psychiatry settings
11. Working knowledge of relevant mental health legislation, including MHA and MCA
Desirable criteria
12. Understanding of NHS organisational arrangements including social care and independent sector partners
13. Knowledge of evidence-based practice, clinical audit and involvement of users and carers in service provision
Governance and Learnings
Essential criteria
14. Commitment to involvement in on site programme of clinical governance
15. Able to deliver undergraduate or postgraduate teaching and training
