As a design engineer, you'll develop ideas for new products and production systems. You'll also improve the performance and efficiency of existing products.
Candidates should ideally have a degree and a minimum of 3 years of industrial experience. However, candidates with other qualifications and relevant engineering design experience can also achieve design engineer status within SDC.
The Role
1. Design: Turning research ideas into detailed designs for production and re-engineering designs to optimize manufacturing time.
2. Reporting: Writing or presenting engineering reports, producing production specifications and drawings.
3. Knowledge & Compliance: Gaining knowledge of trailer legislation, safety standards, and applying good practice standards.
4. Mentoring & Collaboration: Mentoring junior engineers and sharing design experience in review meetings.
5. Continuous Improvement: Applying methodologies and Lean principles.

Requirements to Succeed
* Strong problem-solving skills and teamwork abilities.
* Practical hands-on approach.
* Proficiency in 2D & 3D CAD software, ideally Autodesk products.
* Knowledge of MS Office and in-house systems.
* Understanding of design stress/loading calculations, FEA, fatigue stress.
* Knowledge of manufacturing processes for trailers or similar heavy engineering applications.
* Awareness of customer needs and design's cost impact.
* Willingness to work outside normal hours if necessary.
* Excellent communication skills and high-quality design output.
* Honesty, punctuality, dependability, and adherence to health and safety policies.
* Legal right to work in the UK; evidence required.
