Offer description

Overview

Location: Dundee

Closing Date: 01/10/2025 23:59

This is a Permanent, Part Time vacancy that will close in 14 days at 23:59 BST.

The Vacancy

We are building a new team of Personal Development Workers to work for Ryan. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of supporting Ryan to live his good life as he transitions from living in hospital to his own home.

Please note that this role is covered under Schedule 9 Part 1 (1)(1)(a) of the Equality Act 2010. This advert is inviting applications from male candidates only.

About Ryan

The most important people in Ryan’s life are his mum Irene, dad Paul and sister Celena. Ryan has other family that he has lost regular contact with whilst he has been in hospital and reconnecting with them will be an important part of his transition to living in his new home.

Those who know and love Ryan would describe him as being shy at first but that he quickly opens up to those that he trusts. He has a rich personality and a wonderful sense of humour and enjoys being around others doing the things that he loves.

One of Ryan’s biggest passions is his music. Ryan plays both the drums and electric keyboard and would love to explore more ways that he can involve music in his life when he moves into his new home.

Ryan loves going swimming and enjoying activities like diving for sinkers in quieter pools. His new home will include a garden trampoline and, along with swimming, these are examples of full-body activities he enjoys. He loves being outdoors and the sensation of wind on his face.

Ryan adores places with high ceilings and atriums, and enjoys cinemas to watch DC and Marvel movies. A Personal Development Worker for Ryan would ideally be a driver, but he also has a C+1 card, so this is not essential.

Ryan has a Motability car and is a keen traveler. He would like to travel further afield and enjoy days out in places like Edinburgh.

Technology is important to Ryan. He uses Google Maps to plan journeys, and his iPad and games consoles are important. He will benefit from support to keep devices charged, updated, and functioning properly. His communication is supplemented through AAC technology (Proloquo2go).

As Ryan moves into his first home, he will need assistance with everyday living skills such as housekeeping (bed making, laundry, cleaning) and developing confidence to be involved in these tasks himself. His diet is guided by a dietician, so some basic cooking skills are necessary to help him prepare suitable meals.

Ryan’s Personal Development Workers will provide one-to-one support, 24 hours a day, including daytime and sleepover support.

The perfect candidate

This is not a normal, generic social care role. We are seeking the most suitable candidates to match with Ryan; experience in social care is not essential. It is important to work with a low-arousal approach and to care gently for Ryan and his family.

If these details resonate with you, you may be a good fit.

Do you have excellent and adaptive communication skills? Are you an honest, kind and empathetic person who wants to help Ryan live his best life?

If so, please apply through the C-Change website. You will be asked to attach a CV and include a personal statement on why you are the most suitable candidate.

Contract and Salary Information

We are looking for 2 candidates to work 18 hours per week for daytime support. This includes 2 hours of protected support, development and reflection time each week. Daytime support hours are paid at £15.86 per hour, with contracted hours negotiable. Sleepovers (11pm–7am) are paid at £12.60 per hour and sleepover hours are in addition to contracted hours.

For more information, please contact Andrew Taylor, Support Advisor.

Benefits include: 30 days annual leave rising to 35 days after 5 years of service, Life Assurance, Access to discount scheme, Cycle to work and tech scheme, Flexible working options, Health Plan.
