Freelance Art Therapist

Location: NIDAS Sutton In Ashfield, England, United Kingdom

Company Description

NIDAS provides specialist services to individuals and families affected by domestic abuse, helping to break the cycle through safety, support and empowerment. We offer trusted, confidential, and person-centred solutions that foster resilience, healing and long‑term recovery. Based in Nottinghamshire, NIDAS is committed to creating inclusive, supportive environments where survivors can rebuild their lives.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Freelance Art Therapist to deliver creative and therapeutic support to children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse. The role involves facilitating art‑based therapy sessions that enable children to express themselves, process trauma and rebuild emotional resilience. You will work in partnership with our team of domestic abuse specialists to deliver compassionate, trauma‑informed interventions that support recovery and wellbeing.

This is a freelance position suitable for qualified practitioners with their own practice who are looking to take on additional therapeutic work in the Ashfield area.

Key Responsibilities

* Deliver individual and/or group art therapy sessions for children and young people.
* Use creative approaches to help clients explore emotions, build confidence and develop coping strategies.
* Maintain accurate session records and uphold confidentiality and safeguarding standards.
* Liaise with NIDAS staff and partner professionals to ensure holistic, coordinated care.
* Provide a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all participants.

Qualifications & Experience

* Recognised qualification in Art Therapy (e.g., BAAT registered or equivalent).
* Experience working with children or young people, ideally those affected by trauma or domestic abuse.
* Strong understanding of trauma‑informed and ethical practice.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
* Ability to work independently and manage your own caseload.
* Enhanced DBS check required.

How to Apply

If you’re passionate about helping children heal through creativity and want to use your skills to make a lasting difference, we’d love to hear from you. Please send your CV and a short statement outlining your experience to leanne@nidas.org.uk with the subject line "Freelance Art Therapist – Application".
