Senior Clinical Fellow POCUS and Intensive Care Medicine
This post is available from August 2025 for an initial period of six months, renewable by mutual agreement. Applicants can be trainees in anaesthetics, intensive care medicine, acute medicine, or emergency medicine (A&E). They must have experience in intensive care medicine and preferably airway management skills. Qualifications should include MRCP, FRCA, or MCEM, appropriate to their background.
The ICU, in collaboration with the anaesthetic department, is renowned for using Enhanced Recovery and Goal Directed Techniques for major surgical cases, especially in hepatobiliary and oesophagogastric patients. The hospital handles many tertiary referrals related to hepatobiliary and oesophageal conditions. The unit provides 24/7 coverage by three tiers of staff, each with eight junior doctors, supported by full intensive care specialist consultants. It is recognized by IBTICM for advanced intensive care training and offers a comprehensive weekly educational program for trainees.
Main duties of the job
This role involves clinical responsibilities on ICU and a significant commitment to acute point-of-care imaging. You will have the opportunity to train with leading point-of-care ultrasound trainers, learn from them, and obtain relevant accreditations. Training includes trans-thoracic echocardiography per the intensive care society's FICE scheme, aiming for accreditation within six months. Further training may include BSE level 1, BSE accreditation, or European Diploma of Echocardiography, depending on your interests. You will also receive extensive training in various ultrasound modalities, including critical care lung ultrasound, vascular ultrasound, DVT ultrasound, abdominal scanning, cross-sectional imaging, neuraxial ultrasound, and FAST scanning for trauma.
