Are you passionate about supporting children and young people to achieve their full potential? Do you have the skills and dedication to ensure that education is accessible to all? West Berkshire Council is seeking an Education Welfare/Attendance Officer to join our Education Services team, working in partnership with schools, families, and other professionals to promote regular school attendance and address barriers to education.


The Role

* Working directly with students and families to improve attendance and punctuality
* Conducting home visits and attendance interviews
* Manage caseload of legal intervention
* Monitoring and analysing attendance data, providing reports to schools and the Senior Education Welfare Officer
* Collaborating with school staff to implement appropriate interventions for students at risk of underachievement
* Attending meetings and hearings, such as parenting orders
* Working alongside external agencies to address wider issues affecting attendance, such as safeguarding and behaviour
* You will play a vital role in ensuring that children and young people in West Berkshire have equal access to education and are supported to overcome any barriers they may face.


Ideal Candidate

* Experience in education welfare, attendance support, or a similar role
* Sound knowledge of legislation and regulations relating to school attendance
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and school staff
* Strong organisational and time management abilities, with the capacity to manage a diverse caseload
* Proactive and solution-focused approach, demonstrating resilience in challenging situations
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with other professionals to achieve positive outcomes

Please note this role is Term Time Only, therefore salary will be pro rota.

You will only be required to work during term time when the establishment is in session. You will not be entitled to annual leave during term time, payment for which is reflected in your salary. Entitlement to paid annual leave increases by 5 days after completing 5 years continuous service with one or more Authority by 1 April which is the commencement of the leave year. If a part month is worked at the beginning or end of your employment the amount payable will be adjusted to reflect the number of days actually worked in that particular month.
