Commercial Bid Director (Contract)
Location: North West England - 1-2 days per week from home
Contract: Fixed-term, 20 weeks
Rate: £600-£800 per day (outside IR35 subject to assessment)
Lodging: May be provided for the right candidate
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Bid / Project Director to lead the pre-construction phase of a major mixed-use refurbishment project valued at approximately £350m. This is a senior contract role, suited to a commercially astute professional with a strong track record of taking complex public-sector schemes from pre-con through to contract and onto site.
The Role
You will take ownership of the pre-construction process, providing clear leadership to a large, established project team and driving the scheme through contract close-out and mobilisation.
Key responsibilities include:
-Leading the pre-construction strategy through to contract award and site start
-Developing and owning the programme and delivery plan
-Chairing weekly team meetings, setting clear actions and driving progress
-Holding stakeholders and workstreams to account against agreed milestones
-Managing contract close-out, including all contractual appendices
-Applying best practice, templates, and lessons learned from comparable large-scale public-sector contracts
About You
-Proven experience leading pre-construction on large, complex projects
-Strong commercial and contractual capability, ideally within regulated or public-sector environments
-Confident communicator with the authority to lead, challenge, and align large multidisciplinary teams
-Structured, resilient, and delivery-focused, with the ability to bring momentum to long-running schemes
