Are you passionate about making education accessible for all? We are looking for an enthusiastic and resilient One-to-One Support Worker to join our dedicated team, supporting students with hearing impairments.
In this rewarding position, you will work closely with hearing impaired students across the college and age ranges, helping them access the curriculum and develop greater independence. You'll play a key role in adapting learning materials and supporting students in a way that is creative, practical, and tailored to their individual needs.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide one-to-one support for students with hearing impairments across a range of subjects.
2. Provide one-to-one translation using BSL.
3. Support students' knowledge of and use of BSL to communicate.
4. Adapt and create accessible learning materials.
5. Think creatively to present information in hands-on, engaging ways that meet learning objectives.
6. Encourage and support the development of students' independence skills.
7. Collaborate with teaching staff to ensure inclusive learning experiences.
Requirements:
* Strong interpersonal skills and a positive, proactive attitude.
* A good basic understanding of IT, particularly in creating accessible documents.
* BSL Level 3 (or Level 2 and willingness to achieve Level 3 within an agreed timeframe).
* A creative and flexible approach to problem-solving and adapting resources.
* Experience of supporting students with hearing impairments is desirable but not essential.
* Completed training related to supporting students with hearing impairments is desirable but not essential.
Ellesmere College provides education for up to 439 children and young people, from 4 to 19 years, with a range of moderate to complex learning difficulties.
This is a very exciting time for Ellesmere College as we continue to expand from 2 sites to 3. We have our Aylestone Meadows Site and our Knighton Fields Centre, which will be joined by a new Post-16 centre in the near future.
