We are looking for an English teacher to work with young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, helping them rebuild confidence in learning and rediscover their voice. For many of our students, education hasn’t always felt like a safe place. Your role will be to change that. English here isn’t just about essays and exams. It’s about helping young people express themselves, understand the world around them, and realise that their thoughts, ideas, and stories matter. Some lessons might involve exploring powerful texts. Others might be about helping a student write a few sentences they once thought they couldn’t. Sometimes the biggest achievement is simply getting a student to engage in learning again. We’re looking for someone who: Understands that relationships come before results Can adapt lessons so that students feel included, capable, and heard Sees behaviour as communication rather than disruption Believes literacy can open doors for young people who may feel those doors are closed Has patience, creativity, and a genuine commitment to supporting students with SEMH needs Experience working with SEMH is valuable, but what matters most is your ability to build trust, stay calm in challenging moments, and help students take small but meaningful steps forward. You’ll be part of a team who understand the importance of this work and who celebrate progress in all its forms — from improved attendance to the moment a student shares an idea they once kept to themselves.
