Graduate / Junior Power Systems Engineer (Renewable Energy – HV & BESS Projects)
Type: Permanent, Full-time
Overview
We’re seeking a motivated Graduate or Junior Power Systems Engineer to join a fast-growing engineering team delivering high-voltage substation and battery energy storage (BESS) projects throughout the UK.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your technical skills across the entire EPC project lifecycle — from concept and feasibility studies through to detailed design, construction, and commissioning. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, gaining valuable exposure to grid integration, system studies, and protection design, contributing to projects driving the UK’s transition to a low‑carbon future.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist senior engineers with power system studies, including load flow, fault level, protection coordination, harmonic, and dynamic simulations.
* Support the preparation of single line diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation for HV substations and grid connections.
* Perform data gathering, model setup, and simulations using industry‑standard tools (such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, ETAP, PSCAD, or IPSA).
* Contribute to grid compliance studies and assist with submissions to DNOs or National Grid.
* Participate in technical reviews, engineering calculations, and reporting.
* Work collaboratively with electrical, protection, civil, and SCADA teams within a multidisciplinary EPC environment.
* Support quality assurance and design documentation processes using project management platforms like Procore or similar.
* Attend factory and site acceptance testing to gain hands‑on experience in project delivery.
Qualifications & Skills
* Degree (BEng/MEng) in Electrical, Power, or related Engineering discipline.
* Strong understanding of power systems, protection, and control fundamentals.
* Basic knowledge of modelling software such as PowerFactory, ETAP, IPSA, or PSCAD.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving mindset.
* Eager to learn within a fast‑paced EPC environment.
* Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
* 1–2 years of experience within HV systems, consultancy, utilities, or EPC projects.
* Awareness of BESS operations, grid code compliance, or National Grid connection standards.
* Experience using Procore or similar project management tools.
* Working toward professional membership with the IET or chartership (IEng/CEng).
What’s on Offer
* Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
* Guidance and mentorship from experienced industry professionals.
* Structured career development and exposure to all stages of project delivery.
* Opportunity to work on innovative, grid‑scale renewable energy projects.
* Support toward professional registration (IEng/CEng).
