It is a designated major trauma and cancer centre, receives air ambulances and has its own helipad.
UHCW is the host for Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology services, which was formed in 2008. The network of laboratories is located at UHCW Hospital, Rugby St Cross, George Eliot NHS Trust, Warwick Hospital and Stratford Hospital. It employs approximately 600 staff. The CWPS provides a comprehensive service to the above hospitals and to primary care in the whole of Coventry and Warwickshire.
As Network Manager you will be responsible for the blood transfusion laboratories at UHCW, GEH, Warwick and their blood component storage satellite locations. You will be supported by the Senior Pathology Manager responsible for Blood Sciences and will have a site manager for each site, Network Quality Manager, IT Lead, Training Lead and Performance Lead.
Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a network blood transfusion manager for Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Service. They will also have an important leadership role in the CWPS management team.
You will be expected to be HCPC registered senior biomedical scientist with significant senior level blood transfusion experience and operational management experience. You must also have excellent motivational and development skills.
In this role you will take responsibility for the leadership of the blood transfusion laboratories on all our trust sites. This will include operational management, departmental resources, technical services, staff finances, equipment and space.
You will ensure your service is UKAS and MHRA compliant. Your laboratory service will be quality led, patient focused, efficient and safe.
You will provide specialist advice on science and technical issues. This is an exciting post for an enthusiastic forward‑thinking individual who will make a significant managerial contribution to the transfusion service as a whole.
Upcoming projects include implementation of Swift Ortho analysers across our network and a LIMS upgrade.
You will work closely with the Network Haematology Manager and Network Biochemistry Manager.

Job responsibilities
* Manage and be accountable for the delivery of the service using effective and efficient deployment of all resources within areas as defined by the Senior Management Team, including laboratory materials, staff and information across the Network.
* Design and develop innovative methods of service provision and work with other managers to plan and implement these processes within the departments, in response to clinical demand and organisational change.
* Interpret and implement Trust and other external policies within CWPS, and work autonomously within agreed policies.
* Lead in audit and service redesign, and prepare and present reports when required. Ensure the audit schedules are adhered to as defined in the departmental Quality Management System, and instigate continuous service improvements.
* Review all clinical and non‑clinical incidents, ensure they are reported and investigated fully within the appropriate timeframes, and are reported through the governance structure in accordance with the Trusts incident reporting policy.
* Manage and implement changes as directed by the Senior Management Team and Clinical Lead, and take responsibility for risk management within these projects.
* With the Clinical Lead assist and support the Senior Management Team in the strategic evaluation, planning, development and improvement of the Network pathology service, and deputise for the Group Managers when required.
* Responsible for producing and delivering a departmental three‑year service provision plan including defining and implementing departmental objectives.
* Responsible for the day‑to‑day operational management, including all aspects of analytical work of the designated area or areas of the service, under the direction of the Group Manager, to ensure the most efficient service is provided to the Users.
* Lead in conjunction with other senior staff in the evaluation, implementation and development of existing and new technologies, approved clinical trials and departmental research projects to ensure the continued effectiveness of the service.
* Identify and investigate any areas of non‑compliance in an efficient and authoritative manner ensuring all necessary corrective actions are implemented, and report back on such incidents to the Senior Management Team and Clinical Lead.
