Overview

We are looking to recruit to our Delivery Suite team at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital. This is a role which will require some flexibility with a working pattern to ensure the service is covered 24 hours 7 days week. The successful candidate will be required to cover other reception areas within Maternity and Paediatric areas should we require cover due to sickness or annual leave. The successful candidate will be part of a large friendly team.

The post holder will provide a high quality reception and support service within an inpatient setting. The successful candidate will need to be able to communicate well with patients and their relatives, the general public and a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust. In order to provide a support service to the technical staff, a versatile approach is essential and the ability to cope with a large number of different tasks simultaneously is a requirement of this post. If you are highly organised, methodical in your approach, enjoy patient contact and working within a team then we can offer you a varied and exciting role where you will play a big part in making a difference for our patients. PAS knowledge preferred but not essential.

Responsibilities

* Provide a high quality reception and support service within an inpatient setting.
* Greet and direct all visitors (e.g., patients, relatives, Chaplains) to the appropriate member of staff or patient.
* Update the inpatient diary, ensure details are accurate and up to date and correspond with PAS.
* Keep records up to date using PAS (patients admitted, transferred, discharged from the Ward).
* Liaise with nursing staff over the discharge of patients, including collection of property from General Office, dispatching notes, arranging transport to peripheral areas.
* Prepare the clinical coding form, inpatient sick certificate and GP discharge letters for each patient episode; ensure documentation is complete when the patient is discharged and that the discharge letter is received by the GPs within 24 hours.
* Arrange follow-up outpatient appointments where appropriate.
* Ensure that admission procedures and regulations for Overseas Visitors are met, including EC patients.
* Provide Bed Management with an accurate bed state on an agreed timely basis.
* Manage all incoming, non-medical telephone calls as appropriate and deal with them by delegating or referring to other staff, or returning calls as necessary; maintain confidentiality at all times.


Qualifications and requirements

* Ability to communicate effectively with patients, relatives, the general public and a wide range of multi-professional staff, internal and external to the Trust.
* Versatile approach to support multiple tasks; able to cope with a large number of different tasks simultaneously.
* Highly organised and methodical; enjoys patient contact and teamwork.
* PAS knowledge is preferred but not essential.
