Pharmacy Support Officer (ATO Rotational)

Job overview

We are looking for a highly motivated, adaptable and conscientious full time Pharmacy Assistant to join our existing team.

We have a vacancy for a full time, 37.5 hours per week post.

Previous experience of community/hospital pharmacy is desirable, however this may be an ideal first job opportunity as full training in all areas will be given to the successful candidate.

Your duties will be rotational between Wards Services, Dispensary and Pharmacy Stores and to aid in delivery of medications efficiently and effectively around the Trust.

The successful candidate will be expected to possess or study toward an NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services.

There will be a requirement to participate in extended hours working including weekends and bank holiday on a rotational basis.


Main duties of the job

* To deliver Medicines to the wards and clinics of the hospital.
* To deliver and collect controlled drugs to wards/departments in accordance with written procedures.
* To ensure adequate stocks are maintained and replenished in all areas of the pharmacy department from various stores, maintaining all necessary manual and computer records.
* To assist in the maintenance of adequate stock levels within the Pharmacy and to refer to the Senior Technician where appropriate.
* To carry out routine stock and date checks in all areas of the department.
* To ensure that items not supplied at the time of dispensing are supplied as soon as possible and records maintained of those drugs distributed by post or other non‑standard methods. Inappropriate delays are to be brought to the attention of senior members of staff as necessary.
* The following up of orders with office staff and liaising with senior members of staff as necessary.
* To determine pharmaceutical requirements for wards and departments from a stock list and assemble these orders and requisitions. Where required, to take orders back to wards and departments and put them away in the correct place.

Person specification


Experience

* Reception/Telephone work
* Cash handling/till work
* Basic clerical work
* Knowledge of Health & Safety at work including COSHH and Manual Handling
* Hospital/Primary care work
* Pharmacy experience


Qualifications

* GCSEs including Maths, English and Science (grades 9-4/A-C) or equivalent.
* Willing to undertake the NVQ Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Sciences
