The Department

Central to OHS English is a sense of serious fun. We take every opportunity to foster the girls’ creative and critical engagement with ideas, through lessons that are varied, stimulating, and highly distinctive.

The department is a diverse group of individuals, but we all share a profound belief in the universal power of great writing to inspire and move us to a deeper understanding of the world and of ourselves. We provide a wealth of opportunities for girls to write in a wide range of forms and genres, and they learn to express themselves with fluency, accuracy and individual flair. We are sensitive to individual needs and work to ensure that every girl is valued, supported and empowered to reach her potential.

Since its foundation over 150 years ago, Oxford High School has been innovative and pioneering in its approach to girls’ education. Today, Oxford High School is a happy and vibrant place to work: our students are highly motivated and ambitious, supportive yet self‑aware.
