Job title: Family Support Worker Job Category: Social Care Non-Qualified Hours per week: 37 Location: Atlas House, 2 Corporation Street, St Helens, WA9 1LD, St. Helens MBC Pay: £14.82 per hour Purpose To provide assistance to qualified social workers in helping, protecting and supporting families subject to statutory procedures within Children�s Social Care services. Providing practical support to children and their families including contributing to assessments, delivering intervention programmes, supporting Family Time (supervised contact) arrangements, reporting and recording on case files. Responsibilities & Outcomes To support social workers with caseload management by contributing to a range of assessments of children and young people and to develop and deliver appropriate care packages to meet their needs. Work proactively, assertively and persistently with those families that are difficult to engage, using a variety of methods, in order to gain their trust, build confidence. To provide information, advice and intervention programmes including �hands-on� practical, domestic-based support to children, young people and their parents/carers to provide a positive and healthy environment for children and young people. To work intensively with a caseload of families to reduce risk and build resilience on an outreach and home-visiting basis. To provide Family Time sessions to children, young people and their families including evenings and weekends. To assist with arrangements for Family Time between children, their carers and families, working as part of a weekly rota undertaking supervised Family Time for vulnerable children and their families. To ensure that the voice of the child is heard in all assessment and care plan records, ensuring support provided is focused in achieving demonstratable outcomes for children and young people. To respond appropriately in the management of potentially challenging situations, in accordance with departmental procedures, working assertively and positively with families. To monitor a family�s progress via measures such as Signs of Safety, Graded Care Profile, etc. To support social care cases at court as required in relation to supervised Family Time and to prepare reports for court, meetings and reviews as required. To attend and contribute to case conferences, LAC Reviews, Family Action Meetings, and other relevant meetings and reviews. Maintaining links with other staff within Children and Young Peoples Services, and other relevant agencies involved in support children. Assisting in maintaining children�s links and positive relationships with their families, schools and communities To work flexibly, including early mornings, evenings and weekends, to suit the needs of families and the service, at locations across St Helens Support Social Workers in maintaining regular records on children�s case files in line with agreed case recording guidelines and in adherence with council procedures To undertake relevant training where required, keeping up-to-date with relevant information and legislation in relation to children social care. Contributing skills and knowledge as part of a staff team and attending staff meetings where required. Establish good working relationships with partner agencies, specialised teams and universal providers to ensure effective service delivery for families. To work in line with St Helens Safeguarding Children Partnerships policies and procedures. To communicate and liaise regularly with social workers and other professionals involved with children, young people and families.
