Job Description
Orion Group is working with a leading infrastructure and construction client to source a Civils Design Manager to join their UK Construction team in the North of Scotland.
As the Civils Design Manager, your core responsibilities will include:
* Supporting site-based Civils project teams and early civils-related stages of building projects.
* Supporting implementation and managing the control of the design process to ensure that the design and procurement of specialist packages are delivered to meet project requirements in line with cost parameters.
* Supporting Work Winning/Project Delivery teams by providing design input and cost-effective solutions.
What you'll be doing
* Managing the development and implementation of design proposals ensuring they meet customer requirements, including budget constraints, and presenting proposals for approval to the customer. The design should deliver safety in construction and use, quality within affordable parameters, ease of maintenance, energy efficiency with minimal environmental impact, and innovation to meet customer goals and positively impact the local community.
* Managing and ensuring effective briefing of the Design Team, including managing any third parties or novated design teams to meet all customer specifications, and verifying the competence and resources of design teams or third parties where necessary.
* Providing advice on the buildability of design proposals to the design and construction teams on all packages.
* Liaising with statutory bodies/authorities such as planning, building control, and services (e.g., gas and water).
* Supporting the Safety by Design & Engineering forum or similar forums, representing the business stream as required.
* Supporting and/or leading the development and management of the design deliverables programme, including scheduling, gate reviews, and communication with team members.
* Leading the implementation of BIM CSUK protocols, managing and sharing BIM data.
* Liaising with BIM management during bid and construction stages to ensure supply chain awareness of BIM requirements.
* Applying Lean construction techniques to save money, reduce waste, and optimize construction processes.
Who we're looking for
* Experience in design consultancy or management within a main contracting environment.
* Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to work in a matrix organization.
* Understanding of site-based activities and BIM processes.
* Professional membership with relevant institutes (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
* Valid CSCS card.
* Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and industry-standard design tools.

Additionally
As the role/site is based in the North East of Scotland, applicants ideally should be from this area. Consideration will also be given to candidates from the Highland area, with a requirement to be in the office 2 days per week and on-site the remainder.
