There is an exciting opportunity for individuals who have an interest in working with service users with a variety of mental health needs within a secure setting.

We have a qualified Occupational Therapist post on our Medium Secure unit at The Hatherton Centre, St Georges Hospital, working with adult males.

Within the role you will work closely with the ward/multi‑disciplinary team to bring new ideas to develop the delivery of therapy for service users.

We are looking for a self‑motivated and caring individual who will make a positive contribution to the quality of lives of our service users and deliver high quality care.

The post holder is responsible for the Occupational Therapy assessment of functional needs and contribute to the formulation and development of a relevant plan based upon the person's negotiated goals and relevant evidence‑based interventions.

The post holder will carry out all stages of the Occupational Therapy process; assessments, planning, and implementing interventions, evidencing, evaluating and outcome measuring therapy to ensure delivery is high quality.

They will work actively as part of the multi‑disciplinary team.

They will be required to work collaboratively and flexibly with both the Occupational Therapy and ward team to meet the diverse needs of our service users and adapt to the demands of the ward.

The post holder will take responsibility for the management of a complex caseload, which includes specialist assessment (within service specification), care planning in conjunction with the service user and carer and evaluation of individual treatment plans.

The post holder will be responsible for observations and recording outcomes for individual and group interventions which support the ongoing assessment and treatment of service users during activities to promote their progress through the Vona Du Toit Model of Creative Ability focusing on personal management, use of free time, work ability and social ability.

The post holder will be responsible for completing timely and accurate written and verbal feedback for all interventions to support the delivery and review of the overall Occupational Therapy intervention plan.

The post holder will carry out clinical activities independently and will also provide support and assistance to other staff carrying out interventions to ensure staffing levels and skill mix are met which reflect the clinical needs of the service user/patient group and the environment where the intervention is taking place.

The post holder may be required to prepare clinical areas, communicate plans with patients and staff and accompany staff as an escort/community visits.
