MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN - PLUMBER
Carbon60 is recruiting for an experienced Mechanical Technician - Plumber to support a healthcare facilities contract based in Glasgow.
PAY RATE: £15.89 - £17.44 per hour (PAYE)
CONTRACT TYPE: Contract (9th March - 5th June)
LOCATION: Glasgow, Scotland (with flexibility to support other local healthcare sites in Glasgow)
WORKING PATTERN: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm (37.5 hours per week)
THE ROLE:
The Mechanical Technician - Plumber will be responsible for undertaking planned and reactive mechanical maintenance duties within a busy healthcare environment.
Working as part of a flexible maintenance team, you will support the safe and continuous operation of building systems, plant, and equipment, ensuring full compliance with health & safety and statutory regulations.
The role will be primarily based at Stobhill Hospital, Glasgow, with occasional travel to other local healthcare facilities if required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planned & Reactive Maintenance
1. Undertake mechanical and plumbing maintenance tasks across site
2. Carry out repairs, minor installations, and small project works
3. Respond promptly to reactive breakdowns in line with SLA response times
4. Participate in an on-call rota (1 week in 6 cycle) to ensure 24/7 cover
Building Services & Plant Maintenance
5. Maintenance of AHUs, calorifiers, heat stations, and water systems
6. Medical gas systems and pressure systems maintenance
7. Legionella control measures and compliance checks
8. Assist with confined spaces and low voltage safety procedures where required
Compliance & Documentation
9. Work in line with statutory regulations and Scottish Health Technical Memoranda (SHTM)
10. Produce Risk Assessments and Method Statements as required
11. Complete works reports, certification, and electronic documentation
12. Operate under Permit-to-Work systems and safe working procedures
Team & Client Liaison
13. Liaise professionally with site management and NHS stakeholders
14. Support colleagues and external contractors as required
15. Maintain tools, workshops, and storage areas in a clean and safe condition
16. Uphold high standards of presentation when working in clinical environments
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
17. Completed a recognised Plumbing Apprenticeship
18. Minimum 2 years' experience in mechanical maintenance
19. Experience working on building services systems and plant equipment
20. Strong knowledge of health & safety regulations and safe systems of work
21. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
22. Willingness to participate in on-call rota and overtime when required
Desirable (Not Essential):
23. Previous hospital or healthcare maintenance experience
24. Knowledge of SHTM guidance, L8, Pressure Systems Regulations 2000
25. First Aid / CPR training (training can be provided if not held)
