The Vacancy
As a Mechanical Technician, you will be part of a multi-disciplined diagnostic team responding to breakdowns and completing planned maintenance, working 12-hour days. You will support the departments' Shift Management team (Production and Engineering) to ensure Safety, Quality, and Production Plans are met.

The Role of the Mechanical Technician
* Report to the Team Leader Engineering on all matters regarding the maintenance and operation of plant and equipment.
* Assist across-site as required to support business objectives, gaining experience in different departments.
* Carry out planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all plant and equipment.
* Self-organise and prioritise work requirements, managing them as directed.
* Develop maintenance practices and procedures to improve and maintain equipment.
* Record work via CMMS, manage spares, and update the team on issues.
* Ensure compliance with legal requirements and keep relevant records.
* Advise on spares used or needed.
* Adhere to procedures and report any deviations, involved in creating risk assessments and safe work procedures.
* Complete point of work risk assessments.
* Provide coverage during sickness and holidays.
* Maintain equipment standards and liaise with engineering colleagues.
* Reduce waste and improve operational efficiency.
* Assist in all company aspects as requested.
* Deputise for the Team Leader, supervise a multi-skilled workforce, issue permits, and undertake on-the-job training.
* Participate in plant improvement projects.
Requirements of the Mechanical Technician
* Recognised mechanical engineering apprenticeship (preferably HNC, minimum ONC or equivalent).
* Knowledge of industrial systems such as hydraulics, pumps, drives, gearboxes, heavy machinery, water cooling, material handling, dust extraction, and vacuum systems.
* Self-motivated, capable of leading a small team.
* Ability to work with cross-functional groups.
* Strong problem-solving skills with root cause analysis capabilities.
* Experience with permit systems or knowledge of their operation.
* Customer-focused attitude with good prioritisation skills.
Working Pattern
The working pattern involves 12-hour days, including weekend work, with days off during the week.
