The opportunity
An exciting opportunity has opened up with our client for an experienced Lead Process Safety Engineer to act as a Lead Process Safety Engineer for the projects assigned to you, and support the Process Engineering Manager with the development of all delegates within the Process Safety team.
Excellent salary package of £75k-£85k per annum depending on experience.
As Support to the Process Engineering Manager
* You will be a keen motivator, carrying out and managing development and training plans for all staff in your discipline.
* You will review, update, and implement procedures, standards, guidance notes, and forms for your discipline.
* You will assist in recruitment and resourcing of your discipline.
* You will help develop proposals and estimates for your discipline.
* You will oversee the quality of Engineering and Design within your discipline for both single and multi-discipline projects.
* You will assist in appointing capable discipline checkers and approvers.
* You will work on developing the process safety team capability and seek collaboration opportunities within the client group.
* You will coordinate and report on your discipline's progress to the Process Engineering Manager.
As Lead Process Safety Engineer
* Design process safety within multi-discipline engineering, EPCM, or EPC projects.
* Deliver process safety design across the full project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning, in green and brownfield projects.
* Handle projects across various industries such as Oil & Gas, Nuclear, Energy, Utilities, Chemicals, Petrochemicals, and Food.
* Ensure delivery of process safety design within the agreed budget and schedule.
* Manage client expectations and participate in design reviews.
* Provide expert technical support and lead process safety efforts in multi-discipline environments.
* Coordinate process safety design with other disciplines like Mechanical, Civil, Structural, EC&I, and Automation.
* Check and approve process safety design estimates, control costs, and report on progress.
* Identify and manage changes through proper change control procedures.
Your duties and responsibilities will be
* Process Design Safety: Incorporate safety principles into process design.
* Safety Reviews & Assessments: Conduct safety reviews (HAZID, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL, ALARP, QRA) and chair safety review meetings.
* Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs meet safety regulations and standards.
* Collaboration: Work with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams.
* Risk Management: Develop strategies to mitigate safety risks.
* Documentation: Prepare safety reports, reviews, and assessments, acting as an Approver.
* Training and Awareness: Educate teams on safety principles.
* Continuous Improvement: Promote safety culture through audits and reviews.
You will have the following qualifications and experience
* Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering; a Master’s degree or safety certification (e.g., TUV) is a plus.
* Chartered or Incorporated Engineer status.
* Minimum of 20 years in process design safety across major sectors.
* Experience managing strict quality control procedures.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills; proficiency in safety analysis software.
