About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior EC&I Engineer to support the delivery of complex, high-profile engineering projects, primarily within the nuclear and highly regulated sectors. This is a contract opportunity offering flexibility, autonomy, and the chance to contribute to technically challenging programmes within a multi-discipline engineering environment.
You will play a key role in developing safe, compliant, and reliable EC&I designs while working closely with project teams and stakeholders. This role suits a contractor who thrives in technically demanding environments and is comfortable taking ownership of deliverables.
The Role
As a Senior EC&I Engineer (Contract), you will be responsible for producing EC&I design studies and detailed manufacturing designs across a range of projects. Working alongside Project and Integration Managers, you will ensure designs meet safety, quality, programme, and cost objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop EC&I design concepts including SLDs, BCDs, cable schedules, and layouts.
Design systems in accordance with British and European standards, client specifications, and functional safety requirements (BS EN 61508 & BS EN 61511).
Produce detailed design documentation including Functional Design Specifications, SIDD, Technical Reports, and Commissioning documentation (FAT/SAT).
Manage and coordinate subcontract suppliers and support design approval processes.
Witness commissioning activities on site, ensuring operability, maintainability, and safety requirements are met.
Design safety interlocks and low-voltage control systems (HVAC control experience desirable).
Author technical reports and substantiation documentation.
Interpret and produce EC&I drawings using AutoCAD.
Identify and mitigate technical and safety risks throughout the design lifecycle.
Technical Competencies
Maintain a high level of technical and professional competence through ongoing CPD.
Understand complex project requirements and collaborate effectively with internal specialists and the supply chain.
Consolidate, review, and present EC&I documentation for client approval.
Person Specification
Qualifications:
Relevant Engineering Degree, HNC, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
IOSH Managing Safely or Level 2 Health & Safety in the Workplace (or equivalent).
Experience & Knowledge:
Strong background in EC&I design and manufacturing environments.
Electrical systems design, low-voltage control gear, and control systems.
Proven EC&I design and commissioning experience within regulated sectors.
Skills & Abilities:
Proficient in MS Office.
Strong technical writing and documentation capability.
Effective communicator within multi-discipline project teams.
