Join our dynamic and multidisciplinary Water team in one of our rapidly growing UK offices, as well as taking advantage of our flexible hybrid working model. What your new role will entail

As a Principal Water Quality Modeller in our Water team most of your role will be a senior technical resource who will lead exciting and challenging water quality assessments in rivers and lakes, and also in transitional and coastal waterbodies. You will act as technical lead on a range of exciting and challenging water quality projects, collaborating with hydrologists, network modellers and engineers. You will lead the development of tools that will enable us to deliver efficiencies and innovative solutions for our clients. You will guide our more junior staff, leaving a lasting legacy on the environment. You will be leading bids, and using your knowledge of the industry to guide our strategy and within this space to enhance our offering to water utilities, as well as industrial developments and local authorities.

Principal accountabilities:

* Building and checking water quality models (using packages to such as MIKE+, MIKE21/3 HD/AD/Ecolab, InfoWorks ICM, CORMIX, SAGIS-SIMCAT) to assist in UPM studies, permitting studies and EIAs.

* Conceptualisation and scoping of modelling approaches, with consideration of the risks and opportunities in each.

* Produce and review of high-quality technical reports documenting model build and uncertainties in the model build process

* Lead and input into tenders ranging from innovative one-off projects to multimillion pound framework contracts.

* Mentor staff within the team to support their professional development

* Build relationships with clients and across other technical disciplines

* Keep up-to-date with developments in legislation and guidelines that may affect our services

* Use AECOM’s project management systems to deliver high-quality outputs to our clients in line with the agreed programme and budget

* Work closely with our clients and teams of engineers and technical specialists to help our clients deliver a wide range of fluvial and coastal surface water quality projects.

Qualifications


Ready to push the limits of what’s possible?
Here’s what we’re looking for:

* Significant experience in fluvial and/or coastal water quality modelling software (MIKE+, MIKE21/3 HD/AD/Ecolab, SAGIS-SIMCAT, CORMIX)

* Experience of model build for UPM studies

* Demonstrable knowledge of Environment Agency requirements for UPM or WINEP studies.

* Understanding of hydrological assessments using FEH and REFH2

* Experience completing mass balance calculations including simple, flow-weighted and Monte Carlo statistical approaches.

* Strong GIS skills using QGIS, ArcGIS and / or MapInfo.

* Practical knowledge of scripting programmes such as Python, Anaconda, R would be advantageous

* Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

* Masters degree (or equivalent) in Hydrology, Engineering or other relevant discipline

* Obtained or near to obtaining professional qualification with CIWEM or similar.

* Excellent technical report writing skills.
