About Us The work undertaken by The James Hutton Group is at the top of the global agenda tackling problems such as the impact of climate change and threats to food, biodiversity, soils, and water security. The institute is in the process of installing a cutting-edge capacity building and engagement facility, which features an 80 m2 immersive space and an extensive set of interactive digital technologies (e.g. touch tables, virtual reality headsets, augmented reality goggles, robot, eye tracking equipment, as well as a professional podcasting suite). We are seeking a motivated individual to support the development of materials and facilitate staff capacity building in utilising the new technologies. The Role We are seeking a Virtual Technologies Facilitator to oversee the deployment of our new immersive technologies. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and facilitation skills to enhance user experience, integrate new technologies, and ensure the suite is fully optimised for research and stakeholder engagement. A number of institute scientists have expertise in developing for and utilising specific technologies; a key role of the facilitator is to support the integration and further development of these research activities. The facilitator will work closely with scientific staff, the facilities manager and the events team. Main duties of postholder User Support & capacity building: Facilitate training sessions and provide technical support to researchers, students, and external partners using the suite. Content Creation: Assist in designing and adapting content for projection, ensuring high-quality visualisation and multimedia integration. Technical Support: Maintain an inventory and undertake basic calibration and maintenance of the equipment; provide on-site support during events Research & Development: Explore and implement new technologies to enhance the capabilities of the Immersive Suite. Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with research teams, government agencies, and industry partners to ensure the suite meets diverse user needs. Person Specification Essential: A degree in computer science, digital media, GIS, environmental science, or a related field. Familiarity with VR/AR technologies and spatial computing. Strong facilitation skills Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Ability to deliver to multiple projects simultaneously Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a non-technical audience. Desirable: Strong experience in projection mapping, 3D visualisation, or interactive media development. Knowledge of audio-visual hardware and calibration techniques for immersive environments. Experience working in an academic or research environment. A background in land use studies or environmental modelling. Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., Unity, Unreal Engine, GIS tools, or projection mapping software).
