Speech and Language Therapist (Children's)

Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week (part‑time considered).
The posts are suitable for newly‑qualified therapists or clinicians keen to develop experience working with children. They will be based across Sunderland and South Tyneside as part of an integrated team.
We seek individuals ready to develop skills with children across community and specialist settings, working with a broad range of Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), including SEND and complex additional needs. Opportunities include working with children with Developmental Language Disorder and Severe Speech Sound Disorders.
We collaborate with agencies, service users and partners across systems: Family Hubs, mainstream and specialist education settings, local authorities and health partners, including commissioners.

Main duties of the job
Work as a Speech and Language Therapist within Children’s Services, assessing, planning and delivering interventions across a range of settings. Provide support to a multidisciplinary team, contribute to service development and research‑based practice, and mentor junior staff within a forward‑thinking department that offers specialist services and encourages innovation.

Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments, co‑ordinate treatment plans, deliver therapy sessions, track progress, and collaborate closely with health, education and social services professionals.

* Strong visual and perceptual skills, especially for auditory discrimination and the assessment, differential diagnosis and treatment of clients.

* Knowledge of Clinical Audit, R +D and service evaluation principles.
* Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate the work of others.
Qualifications
* Degree in Speech and Language Therapy – BSc/MSc or equivalent.
* HCPC Registration.
* RCSLT Membership eligibility.
* Knowledge of the full range of children’s speech, language and communication problems.
* CPD and prior experience at this level.
* Post‑graduate training / CPD in SLCN.
* Completion of a pre‑registration year – RCSLT NQT competencies signed off, full clinical autonomy.
Experience
* Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy clinical experience.
* Experience working with children, including those with additional needs.
* Post‑graduate paediatric Speech and Language experience.
* Therapy clinical experience.
* Experience treating or observing treatment of a range of paediatric SLCN disorders.
* Experience in multi‑agency working.
* Provision of training.
Physical Skills
* Ability to meet travel requirements of the role.
* Ability to move and handle equipment and clients.
* Car driver/owner or access to mobility support.
