Position: Consultant, Gastroenterology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease & Endoscopy
Location: Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust – John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford and Horton Hospital, Banbury

Contract: Permanent, Full time – 10 sessions per week (on call duties).
Salary: £109,725 - £145,478 per annum.

Main duties of the job
 * Provide clinical care in adult gastroenterology, including outpatient clinics, referred patients and endoscopy lists at both John Radcliffe Hospital and Horton Hospital.
 * Attend clinics (standard 4h with new and follow‑up appointments) and perform endoscopy lists (12 units per list, upper GI and colonoscopy). Ensure provision of therapeutic endoscopy and polypectomy when required.
 * Participate in the Trust’s clinical governance activities including audit, quality improvement, risk management, and external accreditation.
 * Support teaching and research activities – deliver teaching to clinical students, junior doctors, and partake in clinical examinations.
 * Engage in continuous professional development, including revalidation, appraisal, and mandatory training.
 * Contribute to departmental management, resource planning, and patient safety initiatives including infection control and safeguarding.
Qualifications & Training
 * Full GMC Registration.
 * MRCP or equivalent.
 * CCT in Gastroenterology or registration on GMC Specialist Register within six months of interview.
 * Upper GI endoscopy JAG accreditation;
 * Colonoscopy JAG accreditation.
 * BCSP accredited.
 * PhD or equivalent (preferred).
Experience
 * General specialist training in gastroenterology with extensive experience in upper and lower GI endoscopy.
 * Consultant or senior trainee level with advanced/complex therapeutic GI endoscopy skills.
 * Experience in intestinal ultrasound is desirable.
Skills and Knowledge
 * Strong leadership, organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills suited to a large teaching hospital.
 * Excellent spoken and written English; computing proficiency.
 * Teaching experience and evidence of contribution to clinical governance and audit.
 * Ability to conduct independent research and secure funding.
 * Management training and experience.
Other Requirements
 * Valid driving licence.
 * UK professional registration.
