Overview
The Junior Packaging Engineer will join the Mars Wrigley European R&D Packaging Development Team as a key contributor to develop and deploy packaging initiatives that support core brand growth, efficiency, innovation, and supply security. The role will support Mars’ sustainability goals through cross‑functional collaboration and supplier engagement.
Location & Employment
Slough, UK – hybrid (minimum 50 % on‑site). Full‑time. Salary £35,500‑£40,000 plus annual bonus and benefits.
Responsibilities
* Own technical packaging development for projects across Chocolate, Gum, or Fruity Confections, supporting growth, value leadership, supply security, or sustainability.
* Create packaging prototypes and ensure successful line trials at Mars, co‑packer, and co‑manufacturing sites, producing relevant documentation and accurately recording results.
* Design packaging specifications that deliver desired KQAs through robust risk management and delivery of shopper, customer, and supply chain requirements.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver Desirable, Viable, Feasible, and Sustainable innovation, leading a small portfolio of projects simultaneously.
Qualifications
* Degree level qualification in a relevant technical discipline (Packaging, Engineering, Chemistry, Food Science) or equivalent relevant prior technical experience; Packaging diploma/degree desirable.
* Proven experience of at least a couple of consistent years working on packaging projects.
* Ability to work effectively in cross‑functional teams and with external suppliers.
