Informal enquiries are welcome; see the contact details section.

In this dynamic role you will support the Rotherham Stroke Service as part of a multidisciplinary team, providing high quality, evidence‑based care to stroke survivors across the pathway. The role will allow you to develop specialist stroke skills, contribute to national and regional working groups, and support training and development, including potential postgraduate clinical neuropsychology training.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology/psychological therapy service to users of the Rotherham Stroke Service.
* Conduct specialist psychological assessments using complex psychological and psychometric tests, self‑report measures, rating scales, structured observations and semi‑structured interviews with service users, families and care teams.
* Formulate and implement evidence‑based treatment plans for individuals, carers, families and groups, working in face‑to‑face individual, family or group therapy settings.
* Deliver high‑level psychological interventions for complex and distressing problems such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, emotional lability, cognitive impairment and behavioural issues post‑stroke.
* Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals (psychologists/therapists and non‑psychologists) and to professionals outside the NHS.
* Coordinate complex intervention plans, manage risk assessment and communication, and participate in multidisciplinary decision‑making and service delivery.
* Develop and evaluate service outcomes through audit, research, and policy development, contributing to the publicisation of research findings via publications and conferences.
* Supervise less‑experienced psychologists, assistants, trainees and other professionals; allocate clinical work within the team.
* Maintain professional and clinical responsibility, ensuring autonomy in judgement within the framework of Trust, HCPC, BPS and BABCP standards.
* Engage in training, research and service evaluation to enhance psychological practice and service provision.

Qualifications and Skills

* Doctoral level training in clinical psychology (or equivalent) with knowledge of psychopathology, psychometrics, neuropsychology and at least two specialist psychological therapies.
* Registration with the HCPC as a Clinical Psychologist and provisional/full accreditation with BABCP for CBT or a commitment to achieve this.
* Evidence of continuing professional development and high‑level research methodology skills.
* Excellent communication and consultation skills, both written and oral, tailored to diverse audiences.
* Strong analytical and audit skills, with the ability to synthesise complex data and contribute to evidence‑based service improvement.
* Experience in providing psychological assessment and treatment in complex, high‑consequence settings such as stroke, neurological impairment or brain injury.
* Capability to work under pressure, manage conflicting priorities, and maintain intense concentration in demanding environments.

Desirable

* Knowledge of specialised psychological therapies for stroke patients, neurological impairment, or brain injury.
* Experience with training or teaching other professionals and in multicultural settings.
* Pre‑qualification training or post‑qualification short courses in research methodology or staff training.

Working Environment

* Ability to work independently in diverse settings including inpatient wards, nursing homes, outpatient and community services.
* Awareness of potential verbal or physical aggression from service users and the ability to manage such situations safely.

Benefits and Support

* Full NHS pension scheme and a competitive salary between £47,810 and £54,710 per annum.
* Extensive training and career development opportunities, including apprenticeships, placements and research involvement.
* Supportive working culture that prioritises wellbeing and safety for both staff and service users.
* Mandatory DBS check and a policy requiring the DBS Update Service, with cost reimbursed through the Trust's Employee Expenses Reimbursement Policy.
* Accommodation of flexible working arrangements (full‑time, part‑time, job share, flexible).
