Job summary
The Environmental Portering Department at Northampton General Hospital are currently looking to recruit two enthusiastic persons to join our small and friendly team. We supply the waste and environmental service for all areas of the hospital, working alongside the other support departments such as Domestics and Portering.
We undertake waste collection and delivery duties around the hospital, providing a professional and quality service to all users. This will include the safe transportation of clinical, confidential, hazardous and non-hazardous waste and linen, movement and emptying of bins, litter picking and use of waste equipment including electric tugs and carts, the baler and compactors as required.
Main duties of the job
Delivery, collection and disposal of refuse, laundry and clinical waste from wards and departments to the central waste area manually and using electric vehicles.
Decanting laundry bags from Taylor bins into cages.
Decanting clinical and non-clinical waste bags if required ( for onward transportation, storage or compaction).
Baling cardboard
Exchange of Sharp smart reusable receptacles from all wards and departments around the Trust.
Collection of confidential waste from wards and departments
Ensuring all external pathways and waste corrals are kept clean and tidy from any litter or clutter.
Work on rotation through all the duties as directed by the Waste Supervisor

Job description
Job responsibilities
Delivery, collection and disposal of refuse, laundry and clinical waste from wards and departments to the central waste area within the Trusts policies and procedures.
Exchange of Sharp smart reusable receptacles from all wards and departments around the Trust.
Collection of Confidential Waste from wards and departments
Collection and correct disposal of any condemned items from wards and departments around the hospital site.
Ensure all collected waste is stored securely as per Trust policy and environmental legislation and is prepared for onward
transportation to meet the requirements for the transportation of dangerous goods.
Cleaning duties as required in and around the bay area. Also the regular cleaning of all loose waste that generates in the bottom of all Taylor bins when needed.
Operate waste disposal equipment once trained waste compactors and balers and electric tug vehicles.
Decanting Laundry bags from Taylor bins into cages.
Decant clinical and non-clinical waste bags if required ( for onward transportation, storage or compaction)
