Summary of role: The Reddit Strategy Lead will define and lead Global University Systems’ strategic approach to Reddit as a key channel for brand reputation, student sentiment, and authoritative presence. The role is responsible for shaping the institutional narrative across relevant subreddits, driving proactive community engagement, managing risk and escalations, and partnering closely with Communications, PR, and Paid Social to ensure alignment across all reputation-critical initiatives. This position requires advanced understanding of online communities, strong judgement in high-visibility public discussions, and the capability to translate insights into strategic recommendations for senior stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and Planning •Develop and lead a comprehensive Reddit strategy across all GUS brands, covering organic engagement, brand presence, community participation, and paid partnership opportunities. •Define Reddit governance, including tone of voice, risk protocols, escalation pathways, and cross-brand participation frameworks. •Advise senior marketing and brand stakeholders on Reddit-specific risks, emerging themes, and opportunities affecting student recruitment, reputation, and competitive positioning. •Partner with Communications, PR, and Brand teams to ensure messaging accuracy, consistency, and rapid response to reputational issues. Community Management and Reputation Stewardship •Lead proactive participation in high-impact conversations across education, careers, and institution-specific subreddits, shaping sentiment with transparent and authoritative information. •Identify misinformation, emerging risks, and negative sentiment patterns; develop and execute mitigation plans in collaboration with PR and senior leadership. •Build and maintain constructive relationships with subreddit moderators and community leaders to support credible representation of GUS institutions. •Design and manage Reddit-native content strategies (e.g., AMAs, expert Q&As, themed discussions) aligned to brand and recruitment priorities. •Create a scalable playbook and training resources enabling consistent execution and risk management across multiple institutions. Monitoring, Insights, and Reporting •Oversee monitoring of brand mentions, sentiment trends, competitor activity, and thematic conversation patterns across Reddit. •Produce regular executive-level insight reports, highlighting reputational trends, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations. •Use data to continuously refine audience strategy, content direction, and community engagement priorities. •Ensure alignment with enterprise-level social listening frameworks and contribute Reddit-specific intelligence to broader marketing and communications reporting. Skills and Experience Required Minimum 6 years’ experience in social media or community management, including substantial hands-on Reddit management for a complex brand. Demonstrable expertise in Reddit culture, behaviour, and moderation systems, with a strong record of navigating sensitive or reputation-critical discussions. Exceptional written communication with the ability to adapt tone and complexity to suit diverse community contexts. Strong analytical skills and proficiency with relevant tools (e.g., Google Analytics, SEMRush, social listening platforms). Experience influencing cross-functional stakeholders and advising senior leaders on reputational risks and community insight. Preferred Experience in higher education, regulated sectors, or organisations with complex brand perception challenges. Experience operating across multi-brand portfolios or multinational environments. Familiarity with Reddit advertising formats and integration of organic and paid activity.
