Overview
Based in Blyth area, this role involves working with community groups and stakeholders to contribute to the overall regeneration and improvement of the area. You will engage with property owners, community groups and stakeholders and work closely with private sector housing officers to promote good practice in the private rented sector and assist with the wider Blyth regeneration scheme.
Responsibilities
* Carry out investigations into empty privately owned properties and negotiate with owners to bring them back into use.
* Take appropriate enforcement action where necessary, including enforced sales, CPOs and EDMOs, and actively seek funding opportunities to support bringing empty properties back into use.
* Provide specialist advice relating to Empty Homes and support area-based regeneration initiatives linked to the wider economic regeneration of the targeted area.
* Undertake inspections, surveys and investigations of properties under the Housing Act 2004 and related legislation, attend court where necessary to obtain legal orders for access to properties, and serve relevant notices.
* Be knowledgeable of legislation, policy, guidance, codes of practice, standards relating to a range of legislative areas, keeping up-to-date with technical/scientific knowledge.
* Possess a valid UK driving license as you will be required to visit empty properties in the local area.
* Communicate effectively with council members, colleagues and members of the public; demonstrate excellent organisational and IT skills.
Qualifications / Requirements
* Experience in Empty Homes and in carrying out investigations; ideally with environmental health experience to source suitable solutions for bringing properties back into use.
* Experience undertaking inspections, surveys and investigations of properties under Housing Act 2004 and related legislation, as directed.
* Excellent IT and communication skills; ability to work as part of a team.
* A valid UK driving license is essential.
