Global Category Director, IT, R&D and Clinical (UK)

The Global Category Director (GCD), IT, R&D and Clinical provides Global procurement category leadership for the IT, R&D and Clinical categories and is responsible for all associated expenditure and resources within the parameters of the role. Specifically, but not exhaustively, the GCD IT, R&D and Clinical has responsibility for all stakeholder and supplier engagement activities associated with Networks, Telecoms, Infrastructure & Services, Software, IT Services, Digital, R&D and Clinical. The GCD IT, R&D and Clinical, owns the global Category Strategy for the parent Categories and all related Sub-Categories within IT, R&D and Clinical, to leverage Smith & Nephew scale and position in the market. The GCD IT, R&D and Clinical embeds the Category Strategies across IT, R&D and Clinical through effective management and engagement with the global Category Procurement community, senior business stakeholders and major suppliers. The GCD IT, R&D and Clinical will be based in the UK & reports directly to the Senior Director for Indirect Procurement.
What will you be doing?
* Responsible for providing IT, R&D and Clinical Categories input into the Senior Director for Indirect Procurement in order to inform the functional objective setting process
* Accountable for the delivery of the IT, R&D and Clinical Category targets (including Cost, Risk & Quality)
* Responsible for overseeing the collation of supplier, supply market and internal business data and information in order to inform the IT, R&D and Clinical Category Strategies.
* Responsible for developing the Global IT, R&D and Clinical Category Strategies, including relevant stakeholder approval
* Responsible for the communication and distribution of the IT, R&D and Clinical Category Strategies to the relevant stakeholders
* Accountable for identifying key supplier risks within the IT, R&D and Clinical Categories and agreeing mitigating activities with the relevant Sub-Category Leaders and business stakeholders
* Accountable for ensuring that any escalated supplier performance risks and issues are resolved on a timely basis
* Responsible for the development and execution of projects based on the IT, R&D and Clinical Category strategies and accountable for business planning activities feeding into the Procurement Pipeline
* Accountable for ensuring that the Category projects agreed to within the IT, R&D and Clinical Global Category Strategies are executed in a timely basis in line with the targeted goals
* Responsible for establishing overall IT, R&D and Clinical Category segmentation and identification of key supplier relationships across the Global Category
* Accountable for establishing and implementing consistent KPIs for the IT, R&D and Clinical Categories
* Responsible for driving the Smith & Nephew innovation agenda with strategic suppliers within the IT, R&D and Clinical Categories
* Accountable for ensuring that all appropriate Operational Procurement activities and Processes are delivered in line with the Smith & Nephew Procurement Operating Model (e.g. leads the adoption of the GBS Procurement Organisation)
* Responsible for monitoring compliance and adherence to Smith & Nephew Procurement policies and procedures within the IT, R&D and Clinical Categories
* Responsible for the development of Procurement capability within the Category Team and ensuring appropriate coaching and support is provided to team members
* Responsible for the Performance Management of all Direct Reports
* Responsible for establishing and managing succession planning across the Category Team and aligning these plans with the Procurement Leadership Team
What will you need to be successful?
* Bachelor’s degree required at a minimum, in fields such as business administration, finance, law or a scientific or technical field. Strong preference for CIPS or similar professional qualification.
