Overview
The PCN Paramedic role at NHS provides a specialist paramedic resource across four Primary Care Network (PCN) practices. The role supports patient care through autonomous assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in a holistic approach, including home visits and first‑point‑of‑contact services for undifferentiated problems.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide autonomous first point of contact for patients presenting with minor illness or injury, chest pains, abdominal pains, headaches and other undiagnosed conditions.
* Conduct comprehensive history taking, physical examination, problem‑solving and clinical decision‑making to establish diagnosis and management plans.
* Perform home visits following relevant protocols and make professional autonomous decisions regarding referrals, treatments or discharges.
* Advise patients on general healthcare, promote self‑management and signpost to community services, PCN services and self‑care pathways.
* Collaborate with on‑call teams and practice staff to ensure seamless patient care across the PCN.
Person Specification
Essential
* Experience working in primary or community care settings.
* 5 years post‑registration experience as a Band 6 (or equivalent) paramedic.
* Ability to manage and prioritise workload, work autonomously and flexibly within core practice hours.
* Organisational, communication and time‑management skills.
* Basic proficiency in Word and Excel; knowledge of SystmOne desirable.
* Valid UK driver’s licence and car ownership.
* Full registration with the Health Care Professions Council (HCPC) and Independent Prescriber qualification if available.
Desirable
* Higher Education Qualification (Level 7) and Paramedic Science Degree.
