We have a new vacancy for a Senior Technical Author to be based at either our site in Shipley, Bradford or in Wortley, Leeds, with the ability to spend time at either site depending on where new products are being built.

Your mission
The Senior Technical Author is responsible for creating high‑quality technical publications while defining and maintaining the documentation standards used across the business. The role leads the Technical Author team within the Mechanical Engineering function, ensuring machine manuals and supporting documentation are delivered on time, to the required standard, and in full compliance with CE and UKCA legislation. Alongside content creation, the role provides specialist publications support across the organisation and plays a key part in ensuring technical documentation remains accurate, consistent, and user‑focused.
This role requires extensive experience within a technical authoring position in an engineering or manufacturing environment, supported by a strong understanding of CE and UKCA documentation requirements. Proven experience managing publications documentation, including machine manuals, standard operating procedures, and technical bulletins, is essential.
The successful candidate will bring experience in project and people management and will be confident planning workloads, managing priorities, and overseeing change control processes to ensure documentation updates are completed accurately and on time.
About You
The successful candidate will be highly organised, methodical, and detail‑focused, with a proven track record of producing accurate, high‑quality technical content. A collaborative and approachable working style, combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills, will support effective leadership of the Technical Author team. The role suits someone who is self‑motivated and forward‑thinking, with an interest in continually improving documentation quality and accessibility, including exploring innovative ways for end users to access technical content.
A strong commitment to standards, continuous improvement, and delivering a positive user experience will be central to success in this role. Strong technical capability is required, including proficiency with Cortona3D Rapid Author and Rapid Manual software, along with Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office applications. A solid understanding of engineering systems such as 3D CAD, PLM, and MRP systems is important, and a degree in English, Engineering, or a related communications discipline is essential.
