Manufacturing Facilities Engineer – Defence Engineering
Location: North West – Engineering Centre of Excellence
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 + Benefits
A long-established UK defence engineering manufacturer, with over a century of experience delivering high‑integrity mechanical and structural systems to global defence programmes, is expanding its North West Engineering Centre of Excellence. The business is seeking a Manufacturing Facilities Engineer to take responsibility for site infrastructure, maintenance strategy, and overall facilities performance.
The Role
This position plays a key part in ensuring that manufacturing facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in line with regulatory requirements. The role combines strategic planning with practical, day‑to‑day delivery across capital projects, maintenance systems, contractor oversight, and continuous improvement.
You’ll work closely with production and engineering teams to reduce downtime, improve asset reliability, and support long-term operational growth.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and manage a rolling three-year facilities and infrastructure plan aligned with business needs
Lead CAPEX and improvement projects from initial justification through to completion
Oversee external contractors and suppliers, ensuring compliance, safety, and performance
Manage day‑to‑day site facilities, maintenance, and infrastructure activities
Maintain full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations
Implement and manage preventive maintenance programmes to maximise equipment uptime
Conduct inspections, audits, and risk assessments, addressing issues proactively
Support production and manufacturing engineering to maintain operational continuity
Develop and optimise the site’s CMMS
Drive continuous improvement and best‑practice facilities standards
Requirements
HNC / HND (or equivalent) in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Facilities Engineering
Strong knowledge of PUWER, LOTO, and general HSE requirements
Experience delivering facilities-related CAPEX and improvement projects
Practical experience with CMMS systems and contractor management
NEBOSH or equivalent Health & Safety qualification
Strong communication, planning, and problem-solving ability
Desirable Experience
Multiskilled engineering background or maintenance supervision
Project management qualifications (PRINCE2, PMP) or LEAN / Six Sigma training
Experience with BMS/BAS systems and CAD tools

Salary: £45,000 – £55,000
