We are looking for anEngineer with knowledge skills and experience in the engineeringsector with the ability to support our staff and students in theprovision in a workshop environment. The opportunity also enablespositive opportunities to support the next generation ofengineering students whilst being a key figure in developing ourprovision along with staff.
We would also like toinvite interested parties with skills and knowledge of the sectorwho want to make a difference. You may currently be working in anengineering environment or been on the front line of various areasin the sector such as manufacturing machining design welding etc.looking for a change of direction. You will need a passion forinnovation confident in bringing new ideas to the SMB group and theenthusiasm in embedding new technologies into the learningenvironment.
Working as part of the engineeringteam you will be responsible for running the workshops orderingstock and supporting teaching and learning with a lecturer. Youwill possess an excellent knowledge for the sector with experienceto support the needs of the section and a desire to influence ournew and upskilling engineering students.
As wellas your relevant experience and current knowledge you will also bewilling to obtain a relevant teaching qualification (DTLLS PGCE orequivalent) if you do not already possess one.

Purpose ofJob:
To support or take a leadrole (As guided by the section head) the delivery of teaching andlearning within the workshop environment ensuring that resourcessupplies tools and equipment are effectively and safely managed andmaintained.
To lead by example within theworkshop environment setting high expectations and maintaining highstandards.
To be responsible for the purchasingof workshop related resources and consumables maintaining highvalue for money working with the section head to manage budgetspend.
To ensure that health and safety ismaintained at all times in the workshops and stores in accordancewith Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and any Health and safetyRegulations issued under theAct.
KeyResponsibilities:
* Ensurethe Health and Safety of students in the use of equipment tools andresources required to develop their skills andknowledge.
* Review monitorand complete annual risk assessments associated with the workshopenvironment includingCOSHH.
* Organise safe systemsfor storage of material andequipment.
* Ensure thatworkshop and ancillary areas including the service yard and hygienefacilities are kept secure clean and in a fit and safe condition ofuse.
* Maintain and keep up todate inventory and records of equipment andmaterials.
* Monitor andmaintain stock levels and order replacements as and when required.
* Ensure that any materialsor equipment are disposed of safely and in accordance with Collegeprocedures statutory regulation or manufacturersguidelines.
* To beresponsible for the effective ordering of department resources andconsumables effectively manage any budgets that may be delegatedfrom time to time by the section head ensuring that best value isobtained and that Financial Regulations are compliedwith.
* Prepare check andmaintain the operation of equipment and machinery carrying outroutine maintenance repairs or replacement as necessary and ensurethat appropriate servicing is completed in accordance withmaintenance schedules.
* Issueand record tools equipment and materials to staff and students asrequired.
* Ensure the safestorage and issue of flammable and health injuriousliquids
* Assist in thedevelopment of the workshop to ensure continuous improvement inpractical training
* Receiveand check all incoming equipment andmaterials
* Assemble set outcheck and dismantle equipment tools materials andvehicles
* Design manufactureand construct equipment for use in the teaching/training programmesof the department
* Contributeto the production of teaching and learning materials and resourcesin the workshopenvironment
* Assist and leadin the delivery of practical training and give demonstrations inthe use of equipment tools materials and repair and testingtechniques asappropriate.
* Assist in thepreparation and organisation of formative and summative workshopassessments including technical support advice andguidance.
* Support the EPAprocess as required support awarding body assessors during the EPAsession.
* Support teachingteams overseeing the quality of students work and provide feedbackto develop students confidence and resilience within the workshopenvironment.
* Supervise andassist students as appropriate providing students with support andguidance including during induction under the instruction andguidance of a tutor.
* In theevent of absent staff lead by example the planned workshop sessionsas guided by the section head in order to maintain high studentlearning experience.
* Notifythe Section Head of any building maintenancerequirements
