Overview
The Specialist Speech and Language Therapist role is based at the Robert Jones & Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital and the Midlands Centre for Spinal Injuries. The post works alongside the clinical lead for spinal cord injuries, providing a full SLT service for communication and dysphagia across general medical wards, the HDU spinal injury unit and outpatient clinics.
Responsibilities
* Assess complex patients with a range of spinal, neuromuscular, and medical disorders using specialist clinical reasoning.
* Diagnose and interpret clinical findings, develop and deliver individualized treatment plans within specialist SLT areas.
* Run general and voice outpatient clinics, collaborating with ENT consultant clinics and SLT‑led nasendoscopy services.
* Provide an on‑site FEES service, supporting tracheostomy management and spinal cord injury rehabilitation.
* Work autonomously as a specialist practitioner within the community SLT team covering Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and local community hospitals.
Qualifications
* Licensed Speech Language Pathologist with experience in dysphagia and acquired communication disorders within an MDT setting.
* Proven ability to perform assessments and deliver treatment plans for complex patients in spinal, neuromuscular, and acute medical settings.
* Autonomous practitioner skill set, capable of working across inpatient, outpatient, and community SLT services.
* Experience with FEES and tracheostomy management is desirable.
