Role overview: The Vice President, Full-Stack Engineer – FX e Trading plays a pivotal role in driving BNY’s engineering initiatives within the Full Stack Development job family. You will contribute to the design, development, and integration of scalable web applications and backend services that align with BNY’s strategic pillars—Be More for our Clients, Run our Company Better, and Power our Culture. In FX e trading, you will help architect and deliver resilient, secure, and high performance systems across the stack, partnering with product, trading, and infrastructure teams to translate trading requirements into robust technical solutions. This role requires deep understanding of front end and back end technologies, enabling seamless integration of complex systems and adherence to engineering excellence. In this role, you’ll make an impact in the following ways: Lead the design and development of full stack features and applications using industry best practices and modern technologies, including React/TypeScript for UI and Java (e.g., Spring Boot) for backend services. Collaborate with cross functional stakeholders (product, trading, infrastructure) to define, design, and implement features end to end for FX e trading workflows—spanning market data, order/risk, execution, and real time streaming. Conduct code reviews and provide technical mentorship to engineers, fostering clean architecture, thoughtful abstractions, and continuous improvement across the team. Ensure high quality, performant, and secure code through comprehensive testing (unit, integration, E2E), observability (metrics, tracing, logging), performance profiling, and reliable CI/CD practices. Participate in architecture discussions; design and implement scalable, event driven microservices and APIs that optimize latency, throughput, and reliability across the stack. Build accessible, performant UIs with modular, reusable components; own state management and data visualization for trading workflows, driving excellent UX outcomes. Stay current with emerging technologies and practices; where appropriate, evaluate and responsibly integrate AI assisted development tools (e.g., assisted coding, refactoring, test generation, secure code analysis, documentation) with robust human oversight to advance productivity and code quality. Contribute to secure coding standards, release management discipline, and operational excellence for cloud/on prem deployments, containerization, and production support readiness. To be successful in this role, we’re seeking the following: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Professional software engineering experience, delivering complex systems across front end and back end. Prior experience in e trading or real time financial systems strongly preferred (FX desirable), including familiarity with market data, order flows, and execution workflows. Proficiency across multiple programming languages and frameworks; deep expertise in full stack development (React/TypeScript for frontend; Core Java/Spring Boot for backend). Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, concurrency), distributed systems (microservices, event driven architectures), and performance optimization. Hands on experience with CI/CD, containerization, cloud/on prem deployments, and observability practices. Knowledge of messaging/streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Solace) and low latency patterns for real time systems. Excellent problem solving, communication, and collaboration skills; able to lead initiatives and mentor engineers in a high stakes trading environment. Comfort evaluating and integrating AI development tools responsibly into daily workflows to accelerate delivery while maintaining code integrity and security. Understanding of web performance optimization and accessibility best practices. Experience with desktop container frameworks (e.g., OpenFin, Electron) for integrated trader desktop experiences – preferred. Expertise in state management and advanced data visualization for trading UIs – preferred. Familiarity with secure coding, threat modeling, and production operational readiness in regulated financial environments – preferred.
