Job Title: Senior Marketing Account Director

Department: Marketing and Growth

Salary: £65,000 - £69,000

Location: Northampton - Hybrid

Direct reports: Marketing Account Directors, Senior Account Managers and Account Managers


Overview of the role

The Senior Account Director is a senior marketing partner to clients, responsible for shaping and delivering high impact marketing programmes that drive commercial growth. This role goes beyond day to day delivery. You will lead strategic brand relationships, develop and grow key accounts and actively contribute to the evolution of the agency’s marketing proposition across brand, campaign, digital, retail and customer experience. You will lead a multi level client services team and hold overall responsibility for marketing effectiveness, client growth and account profitability across your portfolio.


Key responsibilities


Marketing leadership and client growth

* Lead senior client relationships as a trusted marketing advisor, influencing brand, campaign and channel strategy to deliver measurable business outcomes.
* Own the strategic direction of key accounts, ensuring marketing activity aligns to client growth objectives, customer insight and commercial priorities.
* Develop and drive Key Account Plans with a clear focus on marketing performance, revenue growth and expansion of services.
* Identify and convert new marketing opportunities within existing and new clients, including cross selling and upselling of agency capabilities.

Commercial and performance ownership

* Maintain full commercial oversight of accounts, ensuring marketing programmes are delivered profitably and in line with agreed budgets.
* Forecast account revenue and marketing pipeline across your portfolio.
* Ensure effective use of agency time and resources, maximising billable marketing activity and team utilisation.

Marketing delivery excellence

* Ensure marketing projects and campaigns are delivered to a consistently high standard, on time and on budget.
* Act as senior escalation point for complex marketing challenges, delivery risks and client issues.
* Proactively shape and implement solutions to improve campaign performance, client experience and internal delivery efficiency.

Client experience and agency reputation

* Own the Client Satisfaction Survey and lead marketing led action plans to drive year on year improvement in client advocacy and retention.
* Represent the agency as a senior marketing leader in all internal and external interactions.

Cross functional collaboration

* Build strong senior relationships with Strategy, Studio and delivery teams to ensure marketing ideas translate into commercially effective creative and campaigns.
* Champion integrated marketing thinking across brand, digital, retail, shopper and customer experience.

Systems and operational excellence

* Ensure consistent and high quality use of the agency job management system, enabling accurate forecasting of marketing budgets, resource and delivery timelines for both clients and internal teams.

Leadership and team development

* Lead, mentor and develop Account Directors, Senior Account Managers and Account Managers to become confident, commercially focused marketing consultants.
* Set the standard for marketing quality, strategic thinking and client relationship management.
* Actively manage performance, progression and capability within the team.

Requirements

* Proven experience as an Account Director or Senior Account Director within a marketing agency environment.
* Strong track record of leading and growing marketing accounts and long term client partnerships.
* Confident people leader with experience developing high performing teams.
* Experience in retail, shopper or customer marketing environments is highly desirable.
* Passion for delivering clear, commercially focused marketing communication.
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
* Highly proficient in Microsoft and Google Workspace tools.
* Commercially minded, with a strong understanding of marketing performance, agency profitability and account growth.
* Thrives in fast paced, creative agency environments and enjoys building momentum, opportunity and long term client value.
* Entrepreneurial and growth driven, with the ambition to help shape and evolve the agency’s marketing proposition.


This role is commutable from locations across Northamptonshire, Milton Keynes and Bedford with hybrid working available.
