We are looking for volunteers keen to share their specialist knowledge with our ecommerce team, who enjoy researching items and creating accurate online listings. Our ecommerce department raises vital funds through the sale of pre-loved goods and use their skills, knowledge & experience to maximise income on donated goods by spotting rare and valuable items. We’ve sold first edition James Bond books, rare antique violins, and mountains of unique vintage jewellery. We receive varied items from specialist books, instruments, coins, stamps, old toys and games, ornaments, vinyl, paintings, to clocks and watches. We also receive lots of high end modern and vintage clothing, handbags and accessories. When am I needed? The ecommerce office is currently located in the Acomb Furniture shop and will be moving to Clifton Moor in early summer 2026. It is open Monday – Friday 9:00am-4:00pm. Morning shifts tend to run 9:00am – 12:30pm, Afternoon shifts tend to run 1:00pm – 4:00pm although other shifts can be accommodated as long as they are at least 2 hours in length. Weekly or fortnightly shifts are preferred. What will I be doing? Researching donated items Pricing items Writing accurate and engaging item descriptions What skills and qualities will I need? Expertise or interest in one or more item categories Some experience selling online, or desire to gain experience Able to work independently with guidance and support Basic IT skills Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion How will I benefit from being a volunteer in the ecommerce team? Use your skills & knowledge for a good cause Get hands on with old, rare & valuable items Have the feeling you have made a difference Support your own mental health and wellbeing Meet new people Gain new skills and experiences Boost your CV & be supported in gaining new skills Be a part of a passionate, friendly and inclusive team Be valued and respected Support and Supervision Ecommerce specialist volunteers report to the Ecommerce Development Manager who will provide you with full training and liaise closely with you over all aspects of your role. The Volunteer Services Team will help guide you through the application and induction process and be your point of contact for general enquiries about volunteering. Training Volunteers are required to complete mandatory training modules which are usually delivered via our online platform. Additional, booster and refresher training may be delivered as needed via e-learning, video links or face to face. You may also be invited to attend role specific in person meetings where appropriate.
