Job Summary
Become a key player in our team as an Associate Mechanical Engineer and help us drive forward our goals. You’ll join our Operational Engineering (OE) team, which delivers Total Customer Solutions by resolving product lifecycle challenges across our global portfolio. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain exposure to varied engineering challenges and make a meaningful impact across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Become a key contributor within our Operational Engineering (OE) team as an Associate Mechanical Engineer, supporting the delivery of technical projects that maintain and enhance the Watson‑Marlow product range. This is an exciting, hands‑on role where you will gain exposure to real engineering challenges across product design, manufacturing support, testing, and continuous improvement.
As an Associate Engineer you will be at the start of your career, reporting into one of our Lead Engineers. Working alongside experienced engineers, you will help support products throughout their lifecycle — from analysing requirements and building prototypes, through to testing, documentation, and manufacturing support. You will develop practical engineering skills, learn how engineering decisions are made in a regulated manufacturing environment, and play a visible role in delivering reliable, high‑quality products used around the world.
Key accountabilities include:
* Technical Project Support: Assist with the delivery of technical projects that maintain, improve, and enhance existing Watson‑Marlow products.
* Engineering Change Support: Contribute to Engineering Change Requests (ECR/ECO), supporting risk assessments and working within formal change control and ISO 9001 quality processes.
* Documentation, Scheduling & Reporting: Help prepare technical documentation, schedules, and reports in line with ISO 9001 and internal quality management systems.
* Concept & Design Activities: Support concept generation activities, help evaluate ideas, and contribute to presentations and discussions with stakeholders.
* Prototyping & Testing: Analyse product requirements to help specify prototypes, support the definition of test requirements, and build or assist with the assembly of prototype units for testing.
* Test Data Review: Review test results and performance data, helping to summarise findings and share outcomes with the wider team.
* Manufacturing Engagement: Engage with existing manufacturing processes to support the manufacture of current and modified production parts, ensuring designs are practical and manufacturable.
* Risk Management: Contribute to product and process risk management through activities such as FMEA and PFMEA, learning how risks are identified and mitigated.
* Continuous Improvement: Support improvement activities aimed at reducing waste, improving efficiency, and enhancing product quality.
* Health & Safety: Work in accordance with Watson‑Marlow health and safety systems and procedures, ensuring safe working practices are followed at all times.
* Collaboration & Learning: Work closely with cross‑functional teams including Quality, Supply Chain, and Production, sharing knowledge and learning from experienced engineers.
