This Band 6 position is crucial for providing telephone support and advice to children and young people up to 18 years old, as well as their families or carers, calling the 111 crisis line seeking urgent mental health assistance. The post holder will conduct initial triage, offer information, support, signposting, and advice on managing mental health issues. They will also provide clinical oversight, guidance to junior team members, support to the Team Lead, and participate in quality checks and data collection for national reviews.
Responsibilities include:
1. Providing clinical risk and mental state triage and assessment during calls.
2. Offering emotional support, making urgent referrals, or transferring to 999 when necessary.
3. De-escalating crises and supporting CYP and their families in distress.
4. Assessing and identifying needs, considering environmental factors and parenting capacity.
5. Using interventions to empower patients, carers, and families.
6. Completing urgent risk assessments following established procedures.
7. Identifying service needs and facilitating access to appropriate support.
8. Upholding patients’ rights, dignity, and diversity.
9. Providing guidance on mental health problems.
10. Promoting the wellbeing and interests of CYP and their families in accordance with national standards.
11. Working independently to deliver telephone triage.
