North Bristol NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Band 7 Specialty Manager to work within Cluster 4 of the Medicine Division. The role will support the specialties of Cardiology, Clinical Haematology, Acute Oncology, Chemo Suite and Palliative Care.
Main Responsibilities
The post holder will be a key member of the Divisional Management Team and will contribute fully to the overall management and development of the Medicine Division. Responsibilities include:
* Lead and manage identified specialties/services within the Division, ensuring achievement of relevant performance targets and strategic objectives, and delivering high‑quality clinical services.
* Build and maintain effective relationships with staff across North Bristol NHS Trust and external partners to ensure the continued provision of safe, effective and timely services.
* Provide leadership for workforce, finance and performance, undertake various projects as required, and contribute to annual business cycles such as capacity and demand modelling, business planning and job planning.
Person Specification – Knowledge and Experience (Essential)
* Relevant leadership and management experience of clinical services, with a minimum of four years in an operational management role.
* Experience working in the NHS or other patient‑focused environment, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrated operational management, organisational and prioritisation of multiple demands and pressures.
* In‑depth knowledge of patient pathways, waiting lists, referral to treatment and diagnostic targets.
* Experience of reviewing capacity and demand, and service redesign/improvement.
* Ability to plan, coordinate and implement projects with examples from previous work.
Skills and Abilities (Essential)
* Ability to manage and communicate with multidisciplinary teams and chair relevant meetings.
* Outstanding people‑management skills, including sickness absence, conduct and performance management.
* Excellent task and time‑management skills enabling timely completion of deadlines.
* Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
* Strong influencing, facilitation and negotiation skills to enable delivery of changes and problem solving.
* Understanding of confidentiality and data protection in a hospital environment, and knowledge of relevant Government policy.
* Excellent time‑keeping and attendance record.
Desirable Criteria
* Ability to rapidly understand the functioning of a department and apply this knowledge for effective management from the outset.
Qualifications and Training (Essential)
* Higher level education, such as a degree or postgraduate diploma, or equivalent experience.
* Minimum of five GCSE/O’level qualifications or equivalent, including English Language and Mathematics or Accounting.
* Management, financial, business or project management qualification or demonstrated extensive experience in the area.
* Evidenced continuous professional development.
Aptitudes (Essential)
* Excellent IT skills, including experience with computerised patient administration systems (e.g. Lorenzo or Cerner) and working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
* Experience delivering complex information, interpreting data and demonstrating improvement or deterioration.
* Numerate and experienced with finance and budget development.
* Well‑developed keyboard skills for full functionality in this role.
