Job Overview
We are recruiting Bank Health Records Clerical Officers to help maintain and manage physical patient records for clinics, outpatient appointments and hospital admissions across East Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The role is flexible, ad‑hoc and supports the Health Records service during peak demand, staff absence and service pressures.
Key Responsibilities
* Retrieve, file, track, archive and transport medical case notes to maintain accuracy and confidentiality.
* Locate records for elective and emergency admissions and deliver patient notes across the organisation.
* Prioritise workload to meet daily service timescales and prepare records for off‑site storage.
* Use Trust systems, including Cerner Millennium, to support information governance and audit participation.
* Perform manual handling tasks – lifting, moving, bending and standing – and follow health & safety guidelines.
Qualifications and Skills
* English Language and Maths GCSE Grade 4‑9 or equivalent, or Business Administration/Customer Care NVQ Level 2 or equivalent.
* Basic clerical or administrative skills, good keyboard and Microsoft Office experience.
* Willingness to learn new systems and processes, demonstrate confidentiality and sensitivity, handle pressure and use own initiative.
* Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Manual handling experience and understanding of Trust health & safety and manual handling requirements.

* Applicants must meet the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) and provide a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. For Bank staff, the DBS cost is paid in full at the time of employment checks.
