To take responsibility for own professional updating in accordance with NMC guidelines and personal requirements supported and facilitated by the Trust. To act as a good role model at all times. To maintain accurate records. To utilise the professional support and information available from Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA). To ensure the maintenance of a high standard of midwifery and neonatal care at all times. To work within Health and Safety Regulations ensuring both personal and client safety, adhering to Trust Policies at all times. To develop competence in all clinical skills, facilitating holistic care to mother and baby within first year of post, ie, Epidural top-ups, suturing, administration of IV drugs, Neonatal and Adult Resuscitation. To participate in audit/research and communicate these findings to relevant personnel. To assist in the setting and monitoring of standards. Participating in all aspects of midwifery care, including Health Promotion and Parent craft Education. Assisting medical staff and ascertaining medical treatments. Provide high quality, evidence-based care and advice to women during assessment and throughout the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods. To know own limitations and seek advice and support from manager as required. To participate in appraisals and personal reviews and work to agreed set objectives within the preceptorship period. To co-ordinate the clinical activities on the ward. To ensure effective communication channels are maintained so that the woman receives optimum care. Co-operating with other units, departments and outside authorities when appropriate. Maintaining ward/department stores and equipment and requisition with due economy supplies and repairs and maintenance according to district policy. Having an understanding of Risk Management and report risk management issues to appropriate personnel using Trust reporting mechanism. To assist in the preparation of off duty rotas. To provide a suitable learning environment for students. To provide support, supervision and mentorship to learners. To work closely with Coventry University to enable students to meet their objectives. Provide support and supervision of students. To complete and maintain records associated with student training/ education as required. To attend and participate in continuing education and in-service training schemes to keep up to date and extend sphere of practice. Attend Trust meetings as convened by Midwifery Management for the sharing of professional knowledge, experience and service progress.
