Job Summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate and dedicated activities team member to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering activities to engage our elderly residents. Activities can include arts and crafts, simple exercises, sing a longs, etc.
3/4 shifts a week including weekends,20 hours a week, 10am - 3pm
Key Responsibilities:
* Resident Engagement and Support:
* Assist in the planning, organization, and implementation of daily and special events tailored to meet the needs, interests, and abilities of residents.
* Provide one-on-one or group activity support for residents, encouraging participation in activities such as arts and crafts, music therapy, games and fitness classes.
* Foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive environment where residents feel motivated to engage with others and participate in activities.
* Activity Planning and Coordination:
* Design activity programs that cater to a wide range of resident abilities and interests, considering individual preferences and needs.
* Prepare materials and equipment for scheduled activities and ensure the environment is safe and conducive to participation.
* Assist with organizing events such as holiday celebrations, birthday parties, themed days, cultural celebrations, and other special events.
* Resident Well-Being:
* Monitor residents during activities to ensure their safety and well-being, providing assistance as needed such as feeding and toileting/personal care.
* Encourage physical and cognitive stimulation by facilitating appropriate activities, including physical exercises and memory games.
* Observe residents' responses to activities and communicate any concerns to the Activities Coordinator or nursing staff regarding changes in behavior or health.
* Assisting with basic needs of the residents while they are in activities, such as toileting and feeding.
* Documentation and Reporting:
* Maintain accurate records of residents' participation in activities, including preferences, likes, dislikes, and any significant observations.
* Assist with preparing and updating resident activity care plans in collaboration with nursing and care teams, ensuring that each resident's individual goals and needs are met.
* Complete activity logs and report any relevant incidents or concerns to the Activities Coordinator or management team.
* Update social media and newsletters with pictures of residents during activity sessions.
* Collaboration with Other Staff:
* Work closely with care staff to ensure activities are aligned with residents' care plans and health requirements.
* Participate in team meetings to discuss the progress and feedback regarding residents' participation and enjoyment in activities.
* Collaborate with volunteers, families, and external entertainers or guest speakers to enhance activity programs.
* Promote Social Interaction:
* Encourage positive social interaction among residents, helping them form friendships and engage in group activities that promote a sense of community.
* Provide emotional support to residents, especially those who may be socially isolated, through compassionate communication and companionship.
* Safety and Infection Control:
* Ensure that all activities are conducted in a safe environment, following infection control and health and safety policies and procedures.
* Adhere to all infection prevention guidelines, especially in relation to handling materials, equipment, and during group activities.
* Monitor for any hazards during activities, report issues, and take action to ensure the well-being of all participants.
