We are recruiting for a IV ACCESS Clinical Nurse Specialist who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
The CNS will work autonomously in the placement of vascular access devices (VADs) including Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICCs) and arm ports as part of the vascular access team within the Cancer Division.
As an advanced practitioner the IV access clinical nurse specialist (CNS) will autonomously, or alongside a senior nurse or medical colleague, demonstrate highly developed specialist knowledge and skills in the diagnosis and management of IV access related complications and the care of patients with IV access devices.
Working as a non-medical prescriber, the role will also involve coordinating the insertion of central vascular access devices, the appropriate placement of peripheral venous catheters (PVCs), the placement and removal of central catheters and the clinical management of extravasation. The post holder will exercise advanced clinical expertise, levels of judgement, discretion and decision making in clinical care.
Working alongside the IV access nurse consultant, they will contribute to clinical governance and the implementation of relevant research into practice thus aiding service development. Be a role model for leadership, training, coaching, and assessing staff development at all levels.
In addition, you will receive a High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of your basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,870 and a maximum payment of £6,137 per annum pro rata.

To place Vascular Access Devices (VADs) for patients receiving Systemic Anti Cancer Therapy (SACT) using ultrasound guided technology
Provide a level of advanced and comprehensive nursing assessment based on a specialist body of knowledge.
To deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients with VADs attending the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC).
To deliver and participate in the clinical care of patients following extravasation of SACT attending MVCC.
